I just thought I'd start the Whistle this month since I couldn't sleep. I can't belive time seems to be moving so fast. October already! Not much is going on here with the birds besides a lot of hormones. Kit is still a spoiled brat, still occasionally plucking, pesking, demanding, noisy, but sweet anyway. Domino and Penny ('tiels) are sitting on eggs again despite all the covering earlier to provide more dark, moving around, rearranging and playing musical cages trying to distract them. Well it worked for several months anyway. Kit is like an expectant father. He gets excited any time anyone takes the daily look in the box. He's already starting to cluck like a mother hen. Goofy bird. I have 5 of 6 adult 'tiel hens that are not paired that are hormonal and "advertising" and backing up to toys or under seed cups on and off all day. Rica the Alexandrine is still calling out the window, moaning, clucking and advertising as well as nesting in a chew up phonebook in the bottom of the cage. most of the breast feathers and tail she had regrown earlier this year are gone again. Not as many as last year and she did leave them a bit longer when she did have them. A slight improvement. Maybe some day she and Kit will leave their feathers alone, but they don't have to be perfect here to be loved. | Peacock Graphic © Rainbow Coffi Tiles, Assembly & HTML By SX2sPlayground | | | | | |

Right now my mom is doing okay, but the day may come when we would need some help. I never look too far into the future. Dad had hospice. Also got a call from my youngest son last night, and his wife has had some mild contractions. The baby's not due for 3 weeks, but anything can happen. They are the ones who live in North Carolina, so I won't get to see this one born. It's a girl. |

Having a list is a good idea. Today I pretty much confused the poor girl since I was jumping from one area to another like a rabbit looking for a carrot. She's a nice girl....so young! She said she'd do anything I'd ask of her. Bob has decided that in no way will he have the girl help him with his shower. Made me laff....he's so embarrased by it all. So we decided that while she was here.....I'd help with the shower. The pup fell in love with her and even whined when she left. She managed to straighten and organize our big walk in closet. That was super...now I can actually walk in it! I think after time....I'll adjust to having her vacume and such. She did that today.....but you know how it is.....I'm feeling she didn't do as good a job as I do....isn't that silly? She also said she'd be fine with the respite and gave us her cell phone number to call if we needed her at odd hours. I think they are working to get the okay from my doctor to do the same for me. Not that she'd do anything different...but she'd have more hours to do it all. I think she has only one other client...a man who is bedridden. Gee Scots....I know exactly what you mean about the bed being hard to make. We've got one of those real high beds....I think the sheets weigh 20 lbs....and by the time I get them to the bed....they weigh twice that. lol Should we send her down your way? Uhoh MaggyMay....I hope they get those contractions under control before that baby insists on making her entry a tad early! |

I would be so excited to have tea with her I'd probably wet myself... Have you seen the Bloke sitcom where there's a Mrs Bucket??... anyway the next door neighbour any time she's invited to tea, rattles the cup and saucer all over the place... that would be me... |

I don't think she'd notice your rattley cup. I saw her on TV yesterday and she looks like her cup may rattle too. It always surprises me to see her aging. She isn't supposed to age like us commoners. I wonder if she's shy? She looks shy to me. Annie |

Some say she is just plain "cold" and others say it's shyness... But talk about horses or corgi's and be it king or commoner then she comes to life... |

I had to go give blood this morning and before going to the lab I decided to let the smallest amazon out to stretch for a few minutes... then trying to get her back in the cage was horrible... The bird hates me (hates Melanie also and that's why it's back here) but it bite me so fiercely that I had three bleeding bite marks on my hand... I finally got a towel and caught her, gave her a few head scritches which she enjoyed but oh the restraint to not wanting to bite her back!!
I have no patience for biting birds... all my birds I can handle, they obey (unless in high gear with hormones and I don't get in the position to get bitten) but with her! it's every chance she gets to bite me she will do it...
Mike on the other hand can hold her upside down, inside out and that to her is fun...
The chicken soup recipe... wonder how it would taste if made with another type of fowl? |

How true Feathers and as small as that bird is the bite is BIG... lol I'm just not used to small birds, (it's been too long since I had any) and I do remember how my Quakers could bite the fire out of me.... I'm far too old to take bites. I think with this small amazon she has been probably stressed for some time... The plane ride was horrific, then the ride to Mels and mel all upset because it wouldn't eat, back here to me and more stress... That little bugger needs more time to get used to the new surroundings.... |
