Weather was quite nice here today, especially considering the fact that we had snow about a week ago Sunny and nice, I sat in a chair on the end of my front porch for a few minutes, soaking up some of that wonderful warmth. Would be nice if it's sunny Saturday. Driving over to Astoria to take my cat to the vet, and it's a pretty drive on a sunny day--especially going over that LONNNNNGGGG bridge across the Columbia River. |

Been nice here in PA. Spending time out in the yard (big deal for me) doing all the yard work hubby had been doing last couple years. Use to be my job and he has ruined some of my plants. Some missing! But it feels good to be part of the human race again. Spent the day digging Rose of Sharon plants. My two big bushes had a lot of babies. Indy |

One of the neighbors up north stuck in a bunch of the rose of sharon bushes.... and they have invaded all over the yard!... Grandson isn't coming out.... guess I'll have to take my allergy stuff and mow the yard, then get to hauling the stuff around myself..... |

We took out a Rose of Sharon 2 or 3 years ago, and we still have all kinds of shoots coming up from that darn bush, all over that side of the yard. Barb |

When we had the landscapers out here we had an overgrown Bradford pear removed and the roots were ground up. I mowed over the little suckers a few days ago and one tire went flat. They found an inch and half long thorn in the tire. I guess we have to kill the roots. I haven't had to do that before. Those thorns make me hurt for so long. They sting like crazy. I thought taking the tree out would get rid of them. I just finished fertilizing and watering all the new plants and found the Yaupon hollies have teeny little flowers opening up. I am so surprised at how many flowering plants he put in here. I saw the plants and approved them but he didn't tell me they would flower. The Indian Hawthorns have bitsy little pale pink flowers. That surprised me, too. Annie |

A gallon of clorox no splash does wonders for killing off suckers after they have been cut down and roots have been missed..., then another gallon a week or so later. That's what I used to kill off 30 year old barberrry bushes that wouldn't grow right after they had finally been cut after 16 years! |

What is Clorox No Splash? You're talking to a woman who has not been to a store in several years. Is that its name? What happens to the soil. Will grass eventually grow there? I'll either try it, or hubby may insist on the landscaper killing it out. Annie |

Hi all! Have been so busy with hubby that I haven't had more than a few moments to read and barely get to reply. I have also been sleeping in quite a bit, surprising because I am an early riser. Our Granddaughter is coming to stay today for a week and now I will have two babies to care for! Our weather is again rainy and cool. Chynna (Dyh Amazon) and doggies are all fine. I think I will need a vacation after all this...lol! Deb |

Annie....the bottle of Clorox will have no splash on it. I think it is a little thicker than normal bleach but not sure. Deb |

Yup, it's thicker than regular bleach and will stay a bit longer on the roots to kill them off. It also breaks down very nicely leaving no chemical residue to harm the enviornment.... A good example is the dog(s) peeing in the same spot constantly... It will kill off all the vegitation at that spot, but once they have moved on to another spot, the grass will regrow and be greener. Bleach does the same. |

Hmm, how about I go hold Sonny, the world's most active pee-er, over the roots about 20 times daily? I know all about dead grass up close to the house. Seriously, I'll ask hubby to get some no splash. Thanks for the tip. Annie |
