When you want to post a picture on Dealing With Chronic Pain that you find on another site, you need to save it to your computer, then post it. If you merely copy and paste it, you are costing the "host site" money. They can end up getting the following message in place of their site:
The web site you are trying to access has exceeded its allocated data transfer
Let's see if this helps:
What is Bandwidth?
Bandwidth is a measurement of how much data is transferred across the internet. Bandwidth usage is metered and priced, similar to your electric bill. Each time you post a link to a graphic on my site, and every time anyone views that graphic, the amount of bandwidth usage I am responsible for increases. The bandwidth used by this web site is not free. This means, whoever was the first person to post the origanal picture on their site, looses bandwidth with each person that comes along and cut and pastes it. Then someone cuts and pastes from them, and so on and so on and so on!
Webmasters may have to pay for their bandwidth. Taking bandwidth without asking permission is illegal, just as if you stole items from your neighbor's house, or used someones credit card. If you want to use graphics from any site, first acquire permission, then copy the graphic files to your own server, then link to the files on your own server. The origanal person is not paying then. Remember, all sites are not free msn ones, many other sites are been privately paid for.
