Oh joy! Today, it is sunny! My bulbs are through the earth even more than yesterday, Maybe, just maybe, I can get my hopes up that winter is gone! I just planted most of the bulbs this past autumn, and don't remember exactly what I planted....so it is going to be a pleasant surprise. I have planted bulbs several times, mostly the squirrels are the only ones to enjoy them, as part of a meal! I foiled them this year though, (knock on wood) by laying chicken wire over top of the soil after I planted. Last year I began to change my garden to a low maitance garden. I divided up several types of sedums and some yukka plants, and eunomonous, and made a couple what I have been calling "rock gardens", at the edge of my patio. I added a couple purple coral bells, I love purples and blues. Plus the bulbs. Probably more, but I didn't write it down. One of the few annuals(annual for my climate) I bought, was purple fountain grass. It was a beautiful plants, and I am going to buy one for the front this spring, and another for the back. Adds height and colour, and I love plants that ripple in the breeze. Speaking of breezes, I also planted 2 silver mounds, they are about a foot round, silvery soft foliage that shines and ripples in the sun, and the flowers are tiny white things. I have them beside the purple coral bells, they were great together. I can post a pic, it is not very good, and the plants were all babies still. I can put another in later of how they are this year once they are back in bloom. If you have read all this, you must love plants as I do! Lol! |

Sounds beautiful, Hannah. I love pinks and purples with a little yellow thrown in. I always grow some petunias and I love dwarf snap dragons. Right now I have to put out snail bait because they're eating every little shoot that comes up. My daffodils have come and gone already. The Easter lillies are blooming though. I've never tried ornamental grasses. I do have lillies of the Nile and African orchids that stay green all year round and kind of have that movement in the wind appeal you're talking about. Before we know it spring will be gone and it will be summer and too hot here! Good to know you're a fellow dirt digger! We have a gardener too, but anything special is up to me. I can't wait to try veggies in containers. That will be fun. Chevy Gal |

Snails, yuck. They destroyed my sunflower last year, so I won't plant sunflowers again. My worst problem is rabbits. They love to eat the flowers off the coral bells, and to sleep on my lambs ears and flatten them. My garden isn't beautiful yet. It was when I didn't have this back problem so badly, and I used a lot of annuals. I had 3 heights of snapdragons, I also love them. They grew all along my back fence, a riot of colours. We have a cedar hedge there now, so I don't have any flowers along there. At the time I had my flower bed along the fence I had a dog and whenever anybody would pass by (its a ravine and people walk their dogs along there) my dog would run up and down the fence barking and breaking my flowers. Since putting the cedars there it is shady, and more private. |

I know what you mean in your "before your back" reference. I can do very little anymore. That's why the container thing sounds so good. The sun is shining here and it's going to be a beautiful day. Hope I can go to the Walmart and get some potting soil and stuff. Depends on when the NASCAR race is on. My husband wouldn't want to miss that! He's a big fan, so is my son. Your garden sounds beautiful, Hannah. Chevy Gal |
