Well, we had some kind of evil weeds that were taking over our small but used to be lovely front yard.  It wasn't bermuda grass, but it had a center and from the center tenacles reached out and covered the blue grass until it choked it out.  Like I said, it was taking over so I thought, by golly, I'm feeling pretty good this evening so I'll take out those weeds.  I was going great guns until I realized I had about a four-foot square piece of bare ground.  And not even a third of the weeds taken out.  I asked my husband to come out front for a minute and take a look.  The blood drained from his face.  I asked him if he wanted me to keep on going.  He said, "No!"  We discussed it later that evening and I called the gardener to ask what it would cost to clear out the weeds and what was left of the lawn and re-sod it.  Well, the estimate was $1,250.  We said, okay, go ahead.  They were here right away and took out all the old sod.  The old sprinkler system pipes were very close to the surface from erosion (the lawn was about 18 years old).  So, they said it would be about $150 more to dig new trenches and bury the pipes.  We said okay.  They repositioned the sprinkler pipe, rototilled the whole yard, and leveled and sloped the ground so it would drain properly and did a very fine job.  Well, the computer wouldn't work that evening.  My husband said, "You don't suppose the gardeners cut the cable while they were rototilling do you?"  I said I had no idea.  He went outside and dug it up and found that they had cut it in several places but they had attempted to put it back together with duct tape which apparently doesn't work for a high-speed cable computer line.  So, my husband went to Radio Shack and purchased new cable and fittings and repaired the cable.  They were supposed to lay the new sod on Saturday.  They didn't show up, until late afternoon and that was just to let us know that the sod couldn't be delivered until Monday.  Well, Sunday afternoon, we had a heck of a thunderstorm with lots of rain and hail.  You guessed it, most of our front yard washed over the sidewalk and down the storm gutter.  All I wanted to do was get rid of the pesky weeds.

Omg, it sounds exactly like something that I would get up to! I ruined our front lawn last year pulling out ragweed. But your case is so much worse, as you forked out all that money! You would think they'd use electrical tape to fix that cable, and also let you know that they cut it. Now, you know you are going to be paying for that work in pain for the next couple weeks! Try and stay ahead of the pain curve before it kicks in. I am so sorry all that happened. Now what about the lawn? What are you going to do now?

I have no idea what they're going to do.  You'd think it would be too wet to lay the sod, but if they deliver it, what will keep it alive if they don't lay it.  Will be interesting!  Sorry about the font.  I was talking on the phone with my Mom while trying to finish the post and pushed send before I changed it.  Not too good at multi-tasking!  Maybe it was ragweed?  I'll have to look it up on the net to see if they have a picture.  Miss you!

The gardeners showed up this morning with a truck load of top soil and a roller and a load of sod.  The new lawn is in and it looks very nice.  All's well that ends well!

PS--Sorry about the font in the original message.  I forgot to change it before I pushed send.
