I received an email today from the American Pain Foundation regarding a webcast to be held on October 21st regarding the role medications play in the treatment of pain. The webcast is called "When Good Medicines Become Bad Drugs". It is free and everyone is invited to participate. Here is the information about it: Webcast Announcement -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Good Medicines Become Bad Drugs There are many ways to treat pain - opioid and non-opioid medications, psychosocial interventions, physical rehabilitation, complementary & alternative medicine (CAM), injection and infusion therapies, implantable devices and surgical interventions. Because of myths and misconceptions about opioids, discussion of medications often overshadows the importance of all available options for treating pain. However, medications play an important role in pain management. Opioid analgesics, when properly prescribed and taken as directed, can be an effective pain treatment option as part of a multi-modal pain treatment plan. Those affected by pain, providers, patients and family alike, need to be well-informed to be sure that myths and misunderstandings do not get in the way of effective pain control. We also must recognize that keeping pain medications out of unsafe hands is everyone’s responsibility. Please join a special webcast, When Good Medicines Become Bad Drugs, moderated by General Barry R. McCaffrey, former director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. This free webcast, sponsored by Cephalon, Inc., will focus on helping patients, caregivers and the public understand that they too have a responsibility in ensuring that prescription opioids are used appropriately. By providing practical tips for safeguarding medications in the home, the program aims to engage patients and caregivers to take an active role in preventing abuse and diversion of prescription opioid pain medications. This one-hour webcast will take place on October 21, 2008, starting at 3:00 pm EDT. Please register at http://video.webcasts.com/events/vxmd001/28151/. tomcat |

Jeez. All you drug takers be careful that no one gets into your drugs. And don't give anyone else your drugs. OK. You just had the webcast. Jeez. Why don't they spend their time on something useful, like new drugs that are coming available, or new pain control modalities. There's a new drug I just heard about that turns the pain receptors around and fools them into thinking they're not receiving pain. Let's hear about that! Well, I urge you all to tune into this if you want. Me? I'm probably going to find something better to do with my time, like... "Counting flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all. Playing solitair til dawn with a deck of 51. Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangeroo... Don't tell me, I've nothing to do...." Opps. I think I just broke into song... Hugs and lots of love, Dan |

Oh Dan was that the Stalter Brothers or something like that? Know you have me hearing the guy with the deep voice in my head. I got the same e-mail and will try to remember to watch it. Any learning is better than no learning. Remember docs hate it when we know what we/they are talking about when we go for our appointments. lol Thanks for posting Kim |
