I just got back it is 4:30 AM, and they admitted  my son, he is 21 years old.  His white cell count is very high and they are running some more tests to see what is going on.   He doesn't have a spleen, and even a common cold must be treated with antibiotics.
We had gone in earlier, and the doc gave him antibiotics, but didn't run tests.  He said he had strep, and since ds's throat is very sore and he has a fever and chills, it seemed about right.
However, he got a lot worse at home and could not keep down anything, not even his meds, so we went back.

The doctor now thinks he has a stomach infection.  (same one who gave him the antibiotics earlier on for strep throat).  I guess he should have run blood work the first time we brought him there today, they did last month when he was sick.

I know I am not a doctor, but I still think it is strep.    But, regardless, any infection he gets has to be stopped, so he won't get blood poisoning.
Son is worrying because his new semester starts Monday, plus he has ballroom dancing class on Tuesday.

So are the days of our lives.

Hannah, sorry your son is having such a hard time. You never stop worrying and being a mom no matter how old they get. It's worse when they are grown up because when they are little you can kiss it and make it better. I'll be praying for him and for you. Give that doctor the kick, they get too busy shuffling patients and don;t always take the time and effort they need to especially with ones who have health issues. Take care. lots of love gramanan

Hannah:  Sorry to hear that Bibb is in the hospital.  Hope they can figure out what is wrong with him, treat it, and get him back home quickly.  I had hoped that once they removed  his spleen, things would be better for him.

Let us know how things are going for Bibb...and make sure you take care of YOU while he's in the hospital.  You don't need to wear yourself out.  But you will.....MOMS!!!!  Take care!
Hugz,
Dee

Prayers going your sons way! I all too well know how you are feeling about your son that mother in us goes into overdrive when they are sick no matter how old they get; it's our nature.  I have one in Vegas that got spinal meningitis (sp) this past summer and was hospitalized for a week; I could not go to him from Pa. didn't have the money for airfare and the whole time he was there it just killed me not to be with him, he's 23.

As far as college goes all you have to do is call and let them know what is going on and they will help him out, make sure you call Monday morning.  I also have a 21 yro in college.  The ballroom dancing will have to wait.  He sounds just like me everytime I was in the hosp. worrying about the things I had going on that week and thought the world would fall apart if I wasn't there, lol.  He has to get better before he can continue anything in his life.  Plenty of meds and rest.

Hope everything goes well with your son.  The best thing is that he is now being treated and you are there with him.

Prayers Kim

Hope he recovers well soon!  And I'm sure any stress he has worrying over school and dancing will not help his recovery.  The best for him is to take care of himself first, then worry about those other priorities in his life, I know....easier said than done!  You try and take it easy too, ok Hannah?  The stress isn't good for anyone!
Hang in there :)

Hello. and thanks for your replies guys.
He is a lot better tonight. I just got home about an hour ago, I have been there since 10:30 this morning. Not know yet what his infection is, but he had more blood work, a throat swab and a chest xray. I have to go look up 33, that is his white cell count, the doc said it was very high. His colour is back, he is eating, and drinking, and we took a couple of walks around the halls. He is getting antibiotics through his IV and seems to be making a rapid recovery. I just left a voice mail at his school, but will call tomorrow and speak to them in person as well. And will cancel the dance class Tuesday, it is just for fun anyways, a private lesson for just him and his girlfriend. Maybe he will even be home tomorrow.
I am not so worried tonight as he is doing great.
Thanks again, and I will keep you posted.

I think it's the nature of parenthood that you worry about your kids forever.  I was 36 when I got sick with my back and my folks couldn't come to me because of my dad being sick at the same time with an aneurysm.  I thought my poor mom was going to tear herself in two so she could be in St. Louis and Dallas at the same time.

You and your son are in my prayers, hon.

Hugs and lots of love,

Dan

That's great news, Hannah! I'm sure you both need a rest; hospitals really take it out of you. Maybe BiB should take a leaf from the Chinese and consider wearing surgical masks to his college classes, at least during cold and flu season? He can't afford to catch something now. Try to rest, both of you!

Thanks for asking.
