Hi Jen. I have been in exgerating (sp?)pain in my right hip for two weeks, I figured it had to do with the fall I had, however the pain had gotten got worse. I have been taking my pain meds both the Lortabs and Ultrams; sometimes it's not enough, especially at this time. The pain is so bad to where it wakes me up in the middle of the night...then when I get out of bed I am in the worse pain ever walking. I looked up infomation about arthritis in the hip, it mentioned Osteoarthritis, it seems to me this is what I have, but only on my back since I suffer from scolsis. My family doctor did say I have arthritis in my back. I also have a pinched too. I discovered this when I was seeing a chiraprator, this was in 2005. So, here is what I came across from Mayo Clinic website. The article says: Osteoarthritis is the most common type of hip arthritis. Also called wear-and-tear arthritis or degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis is characterized by progressive wearing away of the cartilage of the joint. As the protective cartilage is worn away by hip arthritis, bare bone is exposed within the joint. The most common symptoms of hip arthritis are: I have all these symptoms
*Pain with activities *Limited range of motion *Stiffness of the hip *Walking with a limp Physical Therapy: Aquatic exercise is an excellent option for patients who have difficulty exercising. I wrote: The aquatic exercises are great for my back, I am sure the spa exercises will be great for my hip. When I was in PT I did the jet, I did it for about 15 - 20 minutes, a few minutes on my spine then rotated positions by moving to my left, and adjusted the jet to where it would be aiming the ai of my hip, then to my right. Now, I realized if I did the jet too long I would be hurting later that day, so I limit my time using the jet. The jet is so soothing I could stay in the pool all day long...lol Physical therapy is limited, I went there for three months, however, my family doctor would be more than happier to write me a script to go back to PT. I see my doctor on December 3rd., I'm going to mention it to him about, and I'll start therapy right away. Article says: Joint Supplements (Glucosamine) Glucosamine appears to be safe and might be effective for treatment of osteoarthritis, but research into these supplements has been limited. I have heard this name of vitamin/supplement, I am going to look into it, but not until I consult with my doctor. I know hip surgery wouldn't do me any good since I have scolosis, and paralysis. It would do more damage than good. Anyway, what do you think, maybe you have some suggestions? Thank you in advance. -Andrea |
