My name is Amy. I am 40. At the age of 13, I had scoliosis surgery with a steel rod put in my spine from T5-L1. This effectively treated the scoliosis but also had a nice little side effect of permanently immobilizing that area of my spine.

All these years, my poor lower back has been doing its own work plus the work of the area of the spine that is no longer able to move. This all results in DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE!!!

In adddition, I now have a herniated disc at L5-S1, sciatica, and spinal stenosis. I have tried physical therapy, oral medications, and two epidural steroid injections (the second of which gave me an incredible 10 DAYS OF RELIEF!!!)

The doctor told me last week it is now time for me to start thinking about seeing a neurosurgeon for a consultatiion about potential surgery!! I am at once dreading and welcoming the thought of surgery because I have convinced myself it will bring permanent relief.

Amy
