Hi, Whitney, and welcome to the family! I think you just won the prize for being the youngest member, too. : ) Aren't you lucky? Jenn will be so happy to hand that little trophy over, I'm sure.
While I've never been in that kind of a car accident, I HAVE been in a sledding accident that shattered my jaw six ways from Sunday. I broke it in three places on my chin, pulverized the bones on both sides at the TMJ joints, I suppose it was, bit through the skin below my lower lip. All because I went off a 17 foot drop on my sled and landed on my chin beside the highway. I don't recommend it! I had my teeth wired shut for 7 weeks and still have gold wires holding my jaws together, but I had a fabulous plastic surgeon and I was very lucky.
It sounds to me like you may have developed CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome) because your pain has not been aggressively treated from the beginning. As a consequence, the pain has now become the disease. I suspect the doctors worried about you becoming addicted to pain medication because of your young age, so they didn't treat the pain as well as they should have or could have. You need to find a good pain management clinic, Whitney, one that will treat the pain. You should NOT be in so much pain that you are suicidal. Your doctors should take that very seriously. If they don't, fire their butts. THEY work for YOU, not the other way around; never forget that.
