A little about myself....
I am 28 years old, married 8 years, & have 2 beatuiful girls ages 10 and 4.  I have been an LPN for the last 7 years.  I have 2 dogs, and a cat that showed up on our portch and we took her in.
4 years ago I injured my back(not sure how) and had 2 herniated discs.  Consulted with a neurologist and he recommended surgery.  I had a 2 level microdiscectomy.  I did pretty well for approximately 10 months after surgery, went back to work, had minimal pain.  Then the pain came back, and I was having trouble with my left leg, which was the side affected by the herniated discs. I ignored it for quite some time.  Taking Ibuprofen, tylenol and vicoden PRN.  It got to the point that I couldn't tolerate the pain anylonger and the vicoden wasn't even touching the pain.  I returned to my family Dr.  had a 2nd MRI.  which showed alot of scar tissue around the sciatic nerve.  He then changed my medication to oxycontin 20 mg BID, and recommended me to a pain specialist.  My pain specialist has done 2 caudal epidurals, the first one worked for approximately 3 weeks. The 2nd one didn't work. I also had a nerve study done, and of course it said that i have severe nerve damage.   3 weeks ago I had a Pulsed RFA done, basically injecting a needle into the sciatic nerve and heating it up to stop the nerve from sending pain signals.  Well like I said 3 weeks later I am still having extreme pain.  I ended up having to go on a leave of absence from my job(I have been there 5 years) because I couldn't tolerate working.  This pain has affected everything I do.  Sometimes it is all I can think about.  Especially on my bad days.  I have decreased the oxycontin to 10 mg BID in hopes to get off of it.  But I am not having any luck with that some mornings I end up taking 20 mg because I hurt so bad.  I do see my pain specialist next week, and hopefully he will have some answers for me.  I will keep you updated.    Chell
