Hi everyone, I saw this movie the first day it was released here in West Australia.  I thought the actual screen shots, the lighting etc., was excellent.  The acting was honest and I admired the way all the actors involved put their own heart and soul into the making of this movie.

However, and here for me at least is the downfall of this movie.  While on earth Jesus came as a human being.  He chose a body that was very vunerable to all outside influences, not a body made of armour, but one of flesh and blood.  One with all the weaknesses that we all share.  This was the only way that God could prove his love for us, by giving to us his Son to suffer for us, and in the end suffer Jesus did.

The only problem I have is just how badly Mel portrays the suffering.  You see in my honest view, anyone who went through the amount of blood loss that Jesus did during this terrible torture would not have made it to the bottom of the road that led to the top of the hill, no way.  This person would have passed out through lack of oxygen, etc., through such a loss of blood.  The pain alone would have aided him into unconciousness.

As I've said before, why was Jesus portrayed as the only one who carries the whole cross to Golgotha, while everyone else carries just the verticle pole and not the horizontal one which completes the cross.   In all my questions to our Creator this answer has never been given to me.  Watching this movie just brought this question back to my mind.

From a scientific point of view I have to question Mel's motives for his portrayal of the Crucifixion.  In Matthew and Mark they differ about the colour of the robe that was removed from Jesus.  Luke and John barely mentions what went on before the actual Crucifixion.  They don't speak of the beatings while Jesus was in the charge of the soldiers.  Maybe it was all too much for them to do so; maybe it was because the actual account of the Crucifixion was written many years later along with the New Testiment!

All I feel is that Mel portrayed his own understanding of the Crucifixtion, and this to me may be misleading to all Christians.  Our Creator wants the truth be told, but surely we are to find the truth, to seek out the Truth of Jesus by asking our Creator directly not as the Bible clearly says "by listening to the words of other men".

I know that there will be folk in here who will think " from the mind of a Pagan", but that's not so.  This message is from the mind of an every inquiring child of our Creator, as we all are.  Also remember I am questioning Mel's idea of the Crucixfixion in this movie, not the actual Bible.

Blessings
Maggie

Hmm interesting, no comments!  I have to say that my last comment on only questioning Mel's feeling on the Crucifixion and not the Bible, on hinesight is not true.  Afterall I've made enough comments on it in the above post.

So I apologise for that last sentence.

Blessings

Oh well maybe no one in here is in agreeance with me on my view of this movie, but I know someone who is.. ie., Author of 'Finding God in the Questions' Timothy Johnson MD.

The problem is no one comes to this board much, hon.  Everyone just reads the General board.  I do "read all posts" so I read every one of them if I have time.  But if I'm pressed for time, I skip those on the boards other then those involved with pain.

But I tend to agree with you.  This is Mel's view of the crusifiction.  This is how he sees it in his mind's eye, and how he sees his own personal savior suffering to take on the sins of the world.

It's his own brutal, terrible view of how Christ suffered and died for us.  It may or may not be true.  The costumes, props and language were accurate as he could make them.

Hugs,

Dan
