I went to my pain mgmt doc on Tuesday. After the past 2 weeks of an acute pain spell, I was ready to "kill" for pain relief. This last episode had me sprialing downward into a deep depression. I couldn't quit crying for 4 day because of the pain and depression. I went to my PCP and she had to change my antideprssant because my RX card coverage won't pay for them aymore. That was a "fun" experience Being in pain, weaning off of meds and getting Klonopin prescribed for me. But even better news is that my pain mgmt doctor has prescribed the duragesic (fentanyl) patch, 50 mg. to be changed every 3 days. He also prescribed Lidoderm (lidocaine patch 5 mg.) I was so relieved that I left the doctor's office in tears because he is finally taking me serious and treating the pain. So far, so good. The fentanyl patch, which is a narcotic, can be placed anywhere on yor body for pain control and is suppose to be changed every 3 days. The Lidoderm I've used in a cream form for arthritis over the winter and it really helped. Example; last night I had to drive up to Cleveland Clinic and back, 'bout 3 hours in a car and the bursitis in my right hip started acting up. I stuck a lidoderm patch on the painful area, and voila! Pain was bearable. Finally, after 3 years, my doctor has finally figured out that I'm not a drug seeker. and has decided it is safe to prescribe meds for me. I'll try to keep my pain info and reactions to the meds updated. |

That's great news, Mini. Just remember it takes a couple of days for the fentanyl to reach a theraputic dose in the blood stream. It's not as fast acting as many other narcotics. Also, when you quit it, the same thing applies. It stays in your blood stream for a few days too. Lots of love and healing hugs, Dan |
