Yup, it looks like four more years of Bush in the White House.  Well, so be it.

I'm a good American so, gulp... grimace... sigh... I guess I have to ...  (oh this hurts) stand behind him.  OK.  I'm doing it reluctantly, but I'm doing it.  OK?   I'm fervently praying he gets something right over the next four years.  And believe me, I'll be watching.

Remember now, what he's said he's going to do.

  • Reduce the deficit in half.
  • Complete the mission in Iraq and reduce the troops there by 50% within 6 months.
  • Fund the "No Child Left Behind" initiative
  • Work on Social Security to keep it solvent
  • Work on Medicare to keep it solvent

ummmm, let's see.  Well, I can't find anything else.  There's like lots of stuff about security and September 11 and terrorism and working hard and hard work and lots of people working hard... Oh.   Sorry.

I really would have liked to have seen something about Nuclear ... ooops, sorry, Bush is president so it's Nucular Weapons Proliferation.  But he keeps forgetting about that, I guess.  I can't find a thing in his campaign rhetoric about that, though in the first debate he said it was his number one priority.  (Well, he said that after Kerry said he thought it ought to be.)  But there's no plan I can see.  Maybe it's secret.  So much in the administration is secret.  Opps.  SORRY!!!  )Hey!  This is gonna take some time!  I've been a Bush hater since he screwed up Texas.  (Actually, I've been a Bush hater since he screwed up the Texas Rangers but that's a whole nother story.)  I AM trying.  Honest I am.   )

My prediction?  By the time Bush is through, there will be such a huge backlash against "conservatism" that the Republicans will have a hard time electing a saint.  The country will belong to the Democrats; so I think the Democratic party needs to begin now to plan for those days.

This election is over.  It's time for Democrats to rethink our stand on things and to try to forge a new message that will resonate with the American people; one that will more forcefully resonate with their values and their vision of our country in these times.  And yet, Democrats must not give up what makes us unique; our concern for our citizens who cannot make due for themselves; our concern for the enviornment and what we're going to leave future generations; and the legacy of our country, how we're going to be perceived throughout the world.

If we can do that, and keep it simple enough for the average American to understand, perhaps we can do better next time.  Otherwise, we'll be looking at 4 years with Jeb Bush as president  , at which time I'm moving  to France , and I don't even speak French.  (In fact, I don't think anyone really speaks French.  They just pretend to.  They really speak English, with those atrocious accents, and when we're in France or Quebec they say all those funny words just to confuse us.    I mean, the laguange makes no sense.  Who would know that Bourgousie would be pronouced boujwa?  Huh?  I mean, what kinda language is that?  Why don't they just spell it boujwa?  Oh well, rant off.  I'm not happy with anything today.  LOL )

An extremely disappointed but getting over it already,

Dan

As the pundits said last night, Dan, the Democratic party should have nominated Dick Gephardt instead of John Kerry.  Then maybe they'd have stood a chance.  Nominating a guy like Kerry with all his mansions and his multi-billionaire wife, with his yacht and his fancy racing bike and his pro-abortion stance simply didn't resonate with the average American voter.  When all was said and done, I think it came down to personalities, and George W. Bush was simply the more personable choice to many people.  I know that's a bone in your craw, and I'm sorry about that.  But I am oh, so thankful that I won't have to look at John Kerry for the next four years!  LOL

Heh, heh.  Craw is right.  It's stuck right there in my craw and dangit, it hurts.

Well, like I said, we'll see if he keeps any of his campaign promises this time.  He didn't keep any last time but people have such short memories.

You see, I look at GWB and I don't see a good man.  I see a person who has done the politically expedient things for the past few years, not the right things.

Like I said, time will tell.  Meanwhile, we all have to live with what he does now.  He thinks he has this huge mandate, and he's going to act like it again.

I hope he really does try to heal the wounds left by the negative campaigning.  I hope he reaches out to Democrats and tries to work with them.  His history says he'll try to steamroll things again, and run over those in his way.  If so, we'll just get more and more polarized.  I just hope and pray that doesn't happen.  We don't need that right now.

We'll see.  We'll see.

Seems like I'm the only one speaking up for Bush . . . ok . . . not that I agree with everything he has done or says he will do . . . but Kerry . . . please . . . couldn't you find anyone better?  I think the Demoncratic Party needs to look at what the heck they stand for . . . not that I'm a Republican, I'm not . . . I don't think they always know what's going on either . . . but atleast they have a plan & don't try to beat people over the head, arrogantly, with it . . . so, I guess you figured it out, that I'm an Independent . . . not standing with any "Party" (unless it's at my house) & being free to vote how I want, not just how my "Party" says I should vote . . . so, anyway . . . the whole thing came down to us "hicks" in the country or maybe I should say the middle of the country . . . it wasn't about religion . . . it came down to morals . . . we voted for the man that stands behind what he believes in . . . & stays there . . . Well, that was a clever and well run negative campaign run by Carl Rove, the master of negative campaigns.  His deal is to attack strengths.  Let me give you an example.

Ann Richards was who GWB ran against for Governor here in Texas.  She was the incumbant and was very well liked.  She had run on a platform of inclusion in government, saying that race, religion and sexual orientation wasn't going to be something that was going to keep you out of government service, and then she stuck with that by naming several black, Hispanic and even gay and lesbian people to key government positions based on qualifications, and to heck with their skin color or their sexual orientation.  She put good people into slots where their talents could be used.

Carl Rove started a whisper campaign that Ann Richards was lesbian, and that's why she named lesbians to positions of power.  He stared it out on East Texas, in Tyler where prejudice is still rampant ( not far from where the black man was dragged to his death just a couple of years ago, if you remember that case).

Ann Richards lost her bid for re-elction to governor by a very narrow margin.

Can you say "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth"?  Same song, second verse.

That group was lead by a  guy who was an avowed Republican and who never served with Kerry, but still wrote a book about him called "Unfit for Command" which was filled with the most vile lies aimed at discrediting his service in Viet Nam.  Every serious look at Kerry's service verifies the facts were as they were reported on the after action report.  (See the Nightline program where they sent people to interview the villiagers, and several other expose's of this book and the SBVFT organization.  Links are missing because of recent reformating of hard drive.)

Yet this guy and his cronies attacked it, and of course, Carl Rove has disavowed any knowledge or connection with them.  Right.

"Attack strength!" That's Carl Rove's motto.  (See the NPR story on Carl Rove from two weeks ago on www.npr.org )Attack Ann Richards policy of inclusion.  Attack John Kerry's service in Viet Nam.  Attack John Kerry's ability to analyze problems and make judgements based on facts, changing his policy if the facts change.  This is a strength that was made into "flip flopping".  And you bought into that.

I didn't find him arrogant, but I guess you did.  And there's nothing I can say to that.

OK well it's over.  I just hate it that so many people were taken in by Carl Rove.  That's all.  Too many people let commercials and pundits do their thinking for them instead of thnking things through for themselves and seeing what was really going on.  Too many people watched Fox News and thought they were getting ballanced news reporting.  Too many people were reading newspapers but not the alternative news that was getting some of the background out.  Too many people didn't research issues for themselves using this wonderful resouce we have right here, the internet.

If they had, I think maybe there would have been a different outcome, but then, what do I know.  I'm a liberal.    And guess what?  I'm proud of it.  Because being a liberal means I'm concerned about those who don't have health insurance, and those who don't have enough to eat, or homes to live in.  I'm concerned about those who aren't getting educations because initiatives aren't getting funded.  I'm worried about people who can't afford drugs.   I'm also worried about the envioronment, and civil rights, and what's going to happen to the Supreme court and how a couple more Clarence Thomas's and Anthony Scalia's are going to shape our future, because believe me, they are NOT strict constructionists.  Those two are making law right and left.

Yeah, I'm a liberal, and we'll see what happens now.  So far there's been no compassion in Bush's conservatism.  At least I've seen none.  Maybe you can show me some.  The drug benefit is a joke, by the way.  It won't pay a lot of drug costs.  I guess some is better than nothing.  There are hugs deductables and co pays though.  And... Sheesh...

Heh, heh.  OK rant off.  I'm sorry.  <Sigh>  I guess I'm not over it yet, am I?  Doh....

Hugs,

Dan

Ok, I guess I'll just say, why didn't Kerry release his Vietnam service records if it was so great?   At the debate, out of his own mouth came, wrong war, wrong time blah, blah about Iraq but then went on to say he would unilateraly go into Sudan & N. Korea . . .didn't people hear that?  I see you, like myself, research things at other places . . . having been a "Flower Child", I am well versed in the things our government tells us are white, when actually they are rainbow colored . . . our media does the same thing . . . & speaking of the media . . . what was with the exit polls?  That looked a little fishy to say the least . .     . what was really so great about this election, was the fact there were so many people exercising their right to vote . . . I think who you voted for depended on what you thought was the highest priority of inportance . . . was it health care, was it taxes, economy, jobs . . . or was it the war on terrorism. . . after all, if we don't win that, what do all the other things even mean? . . . and who better to lead us in the fight, than a man that even Bin Laden didn't want to see at the front of the charge . . . Sama threatened to attack any state that supported Bush . . . what does it say about Kerry, when our enemy wants him in the White House?      Magic Lizzy

I only have one thing to say on this subject-
I did not want to vote for Bush, but I did.  I am neither Republican or Democrat.  I probably would have voted for the democratic candidate had it been someone other than Kerry.  I just could not bring myself to vote for that "talking from both sides of his mouth" man.  I really didn't want Bush again but in my opinion he was the "lesser of 2 evils".  As MagicLizzy said:  "What does it say about Kerry when our enemies wanted him in the White-House?"  I really hated to have to go vote because of our two choices.

Ummm.  Kerry DID release his records.  Where did you get that he didn't?  The after action report that was used for his Silver Star was used by Nightline when they went to the villiage and interviewed the villiagers there.

The day that action took place was essentially one of the most memorable in the lives of the people who lived through it.  They couldn't care less who John Kerry was.  Ther lives were centered about their villiage and living in the culture they had lived in all their lives when they were interviewed earlier this year.

Their account of that day matches the after action report on which his medal was given, NOT the version in  "Unfit For Command".

When the author of that book was confronted with that fact, all he could do was point to his book.  It was pretty obvious to the most casual observer that the man made up his version.

You see, when you depend on lies for your information, then you come away with bad information to make your decisions on.  The same goes for the so called "flip flop" issue.  That's just a made up issue.  Kerry easily explained how they made perfectly valid voting decisions look like he was "flip flopping".

Of course, when you hear the same thing over and over and over, one tends to believe it, no matter how ludicrous it is.  I'm learning that myself with this Oklahoma thing.  This woman who wrecked her car has convinced herself through repitition that I hit her.  The facts just don't seem to impact her mind.  She continues to insist that I hit her, despite the evidence to the contrary, with a car with no damage.

Same thing with the flip flop issue.. er non-issue.  They just repeated it so often people believed it.  The facts seemed to support it on the surface, but if you looked a little deeper they didn't.

By the way, it's Bush's records that are sealed, from his business records (failed oil companies and the Texas Rangers records) in Texas, to his driving record in New England and including much of his service records.  They're all sealed.  The public can't get to them, just like Cheney's Energy Task Force records.  We're not allowed to see those either.

Well, it's over.  Everyone has made their decisions and now we're going to live with 4 more years of Bush and his policies.  So we'll see where that takes us.  The country will survive.  I am pretty sure of that.    We'll all stay friends I hope.

I just hope that Carl Rove (Bush's chief political advisor) and his political skulduggery doesn't become the de-facto way of doing political campaigning in this country, though I'm afraid it will.  Too many people have studied his techniques now, and they've seen how successful they are.  That's probably the saddest thing that's come out of the election, that his techniques have been validated, from the methods of disenfranchising selected Democratic voters; to intimidating voters with Republican "Election Monitors"; to Canvasers who asked people who they were going to vote for, and if they were going to vote for Bush made sure they were registered and if they were going to vote for Kerry just said, "I'll report this." and moved on; to the attacks on first John McCain's and then Kerry's service record, and on and on and on.  These underhanded, dirty, sneaky and vicious techniques are going to be with us for quite a while, I'm afraid.

That's the worst thing, I think.  Carl Rove's little legacy.  Bush will do whatever he does for his wealthy friends and be gone.  Rove's techniques will be with us for a long time to come.

Hugs,

Dan
