I know our country is far from perfect but I am disturbed by what has been being said on an international basis about us lately. We are being called "stingy" by some in the international community for what aid we are offering the region of the world hit by the disasterous tsunami. I know that we just increased our aid but Norway is still calling us stingy, as well as other countries. I have a problem with them and the name calling. Our state of Florida went through 4 devastating hurricanes this past year and things are far from being back to normal in many parts of the state but in searching, I could not find any help from any of these countries for us. Why the double standard? We are still dealing with our own disasters and still helping. Sorry, just irks me is all. I never was good with the name calling thing. lol Makes me feel bad for all of the ppl who are helping sooo much at this time of need. I know our country has needs that our own government is not taking care of, but that is not what this is about. It is about helping out fellow human beings in an unimaginable time of tragedy and we ARE helping. Katie |

It's pretty typical that we are seen as never doing enough for others when no one does much to help us when something strikes us. I don't know why the double standard. I guess they figure we're rich enough to take care of ourselves. And I guess that's true to a certain extent. It still would be nice to see some help from others when things go wrong over here. They sure expect everything AND the kitchen sink from us when things go wrong there. Dan |

It is not even that they did not help us out because we do take care of ourselves but why do they have to say we are "Stingy" when we ARE helping. some of these name callers need to go into some of the appalachian towns if they think we are so stinking rich. Maybe if we were NOT always helping out every country in the world, we would be able to better help our own. Hugs, Katie.........whew it feels good to vent.

p.s. I am still very proud of our country that we are a compasionate people and that we do help when human suffering is involved so my last statement didn't come out right..I didn't mean it to sound like I think we should not help others. |

'Scuse me....did nyone see that huge shipment of sailboat fuel that came into Florida during the hurricanes? It was from Spain, Thailand, Japan, Korea and I forget who else joined in on it. I seemed to have misplaced it. Well, I be damned.....it's missing. Who should I call for this missing fuel? The countries who sent it" Or the State Dept? Or the President? the double standards...is it because we make more per hour over here? Is it because we dress better over here? Or because more Americans can fly to other countries for vacations? It really burnt me to a crisp to see the vacationing Americans dragging their luggage thru the debris leaving after the tsunamis hit, instead of trying to help those poor people. <Doofers is applying silvadene to the burn areas.> |

The US just increased it's aid by ten fold, from $35 million to $350 million. We'll still be called stingy, I'm sure. Doofers, I hear you but I've got to tell you, I would probably be doing the same thing. Disease is going to be rampant over there. Cholera and malaria are going to be epidemic. I would be getting out of those countries as fast as I could unless I was recently immunized and had some skills that would actually help. Hugs and love, Dan |
