Hold on everyone.  Dubya's new budget is out.  It cuts social programs across the board, while calling for increases in foreign aid and the military.

The only "corporate welfare" cut is Amtrack.

Mediaid is cut.  Housing is cut.  Education is cut (even more).  Agriculture and farming is cut.  Evironmental protection is cut (even more).  and the list goes on and on, all on the social side of the equation.  If it has to do with quality of life, it's being cut.  Dubya doesn't believe that the federal "Govment" has any role to play in actually "heping" people.

OK I just thought this might make for something to talk about.  There's a basic conservative thought that the "redistribution of wealth" is wrong.  To take my tax dollars and redistribute them to say, the urban poor in the form of block grants to cities, is a wrong thing to do, even if they need new infrastructure in the form of say, new sewers for example.  Conservative thinkers think that's just a wrong thing to do.

Your more progressive thinkers believe that the suburbs cannot exist long term without a healthy core the suburbs won't be healthy for long either.  They believe that if inner city sewage, for example isn't dealt with, it will wash into the waterways untreated, and where will those waters flow?  Why yes, uncle Petunia.  They'll flow out to the suburbs, won't they?

So is it wise to redistribute a little money into the inner city to help with infrastructure maintenance?  Or not?  President Bush thinks not.

And he's taken that kind of thinking and applied it to the entire budget.

He says that he's targeted only programs that don't work.  Right.  Sure.  We all believe that, don't we?

And there are WMD in Iraq.  I'm sure there are.  Oh wait.  I forgot.  We quit looking, didn't we?  Now it's about nation building.

Oh yeah, his new budget didn't include the 80 to 100 BILLION that it's going to take to keep the troops in Iraq this year.  Not sure where that money is going to come from.  Bah.  Put it on credit.  Let our children pay for it.  Maybe we'll find some WMD we can sell.  :-)

Am I a little disgusted?  Yup.  If there was ANY corporate welfare targeted to be cut, I would feel a LOT better.

But noooooooooooo.  As near as I can tell from the immediate releases coming out of the Dubya House and the major news sources, all the cuts are aimed at social spending, except Amtrack which is a public transportation program that many depend on to get to work.  This just makes me sick.  Dubya must be reading Walter Williams again, the idiot.  Well both of them are idiots but especially Williams who should really know better.  Economist indeed!!!  I think he must have gotten his degree off a box of cracker jacks.  He spouts ecconomic theory with no regard for historical realities.  He's totally of the "I've got more and you can't have any." side of economic theory.
