Well, let's look at it.
We actually are allowed to wiretap. The president and the administration has virtually an open check to wire tap just about anyone. They just need to get a judge's approval first. Actually, they don't need to get it first. They can go ahead and do the wiretap, and then come back and get the approval retroactive.
In the previous two years prior to President Bush beginning to ignore the law that said they had to at least go back and get approval, the judges had said no on precisely six, that's SIX requests out of thousands of requests. But those six were apparently too many. But instead of going back and asking cogress to change the law, he just took the law into his own hands.
Some people think that's wrong. Others think he had the right to do that. He obviously thinks he can do it and get away with it. And, so far, he has. However, one judge has told him to stop that. That he must get approval to wiretap, as the law clearly states.
Profiling. Actually, they do profile. The FBI has people who specialize in profiling. The fact that many of the airport security firms are not doing a good job with it doesn't mean it's not allowed. It means they need to be better trained. Unfortunately, there's no money in the budget for training.
I don't know about pedophiles walking after 60 days. I'm not sure what you're talking about there.
Abortion is a subject that is a tough one for me. I personally don't like it. I happen to agree that we are building a "culture of death". And I think that we should be pushing alternative methods of dealing with unwanted pregnancies.
However, I have to say that this is a decision that should be between a woman and her doctor. I don't believe it's something that I should have the right to put my own moral judgement on someone else.
It's God's job to judge. Nowhere do I find it my job. My job, according to Jesus is to "Love the Lord my God with all my heart and all my soul and all my mind. And to love my neighbor as myself."
Nothing in there about judging anyone. So I try to leave that to God. If I'm called to a jury, then of course I'll have to pass judgement. But that would be according to law, not my own moral way of thinking. Do you see the difference?
No, we don't deserve everything we get in my humble opinion. We're a great country. And we're full of great people. You and I are two of them.
Love,
Dan
