Are you taking Byetta? Alone or in addition to oral medications??

Please Share your experiences with us here.. and remember Each of us are different and you need to consult your OWN Doctor before you make a change in any medications or doses..

Keep smiling, Cuddles

I'm taking Byetta 10mg twice daily before breakfast and before supper.

In the beganing when I first started I was neausated for about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks, Than the neausa went away..I lost a total of 8 lbs and it helped with my sugars but noe it doesn't seems to be helping and I've gained the 8 lbs back plus.

Cheryl, I did some research to see if Byetta can be taken by heart patients but could not find any thing on heart & Byetta.

I did find that they do have a generic for Byetta now..it's called Exenatide.

I had researched it too and found no mention of heart problems and byetta.  This member thought that her dr. was going to put her on this med. but she has a heart problem and was convinced that she wouldn't be able to take it.  I'll let her know about this new medicine thread and what you guys said.  Thanks, guys....Peace,Cheryl

I take byetta 10 mg twice a day also, when I remember that is, and I also have heart problems and on heart meds. I don't have any problems with the two meds conflicting with each other. I have been on byetta for about 4 months and doing okay with it now. In the beginning I had bad diaherra (sp) for about a month, but it has quit. I have also lost 8 pounds, not sure if due to the medication or not, but I hope to keep losing. I also take metformin 1000 mg twice a day, and duetact 30/4mg once a day. My A1C was 7.4 today. My doctor said that if I don't get it down in the next 2 months when I go back to see her then I will have to go on insulin. Don't really want that.

I was taking Byetta along with insulin and oral meds.  Didn't help with weight loss for me.  Just had nausea and actual pains in the pancreas area of stomach.
Endo decided to switch me to Symlin just a couple of weeks ago.  Seems to be working with no stomach problems.

I have been on byetta for about 6 months now. At first I had diaherra, but it has stopped. I am losing weight by being on it. I use the longer needles instead of the short ones on account of my weight, they wanted to make sure the medicine got into my system and it will do it better with the longer needles. I put it into my stomach, right side in the morning, left side at night, that way I won't get around the same spot both times. Good luck with it, I think that you will like it.

Good evening, Well, I have been on Byetta and have had no real problems with it... I would say the first two weeks or so I felt nausaus and burpy but now it has passed.... I have lost about 12 pounds which is amazing... I do eat much much less, that is fact...but, I am also trying on my own too so I don't know how much the Byetta is doing...??
How long have you been a diabetic??
I have been a diabetic for 19 years...17 of those years I have been on insulin... I take 4 shots a day along with 2 of Byetta and then the finger pricking to test my blood sugars... it seems that is all I am doing, Ha...
I would love to hear from you.... Judy in Minnesota

I have been taking Byetta for about 5 months now.  I take 10mg with my morning meal and my evening meal.  The first couple of days I was real nauseated, but now I have no problems.  I take this along with my Lantus.
One thing that I have noticed is that Byetta acts as a appetite suppressant.  My Dr. thinks that my recent weightloss has to do with taking Byetta.  Of course eating right and exercise is a key thing also.  But hey if it is helping me then I will continue to take it.
