Do you do a disk clean-up Day? Have you removed all but the latest restore points? That frees up a huge amount of space. Have you removed all your temp internet files, cookies & recent documents from the Documents and Settings aswell as your internet options? Go through your programs in your Add/Remove Hardware and remove anything that you don't want too. |

Awwwwwwwww Day !!! The defrag will work after tyou have cleaned the disk .... start .. programmes.. accessories... system tools ... there should be a trhing that says disk clean. If its having trouble even doing that do a disk scan as well. As for removing programmes .... i do that at least once a month... you know when the kids use the pc and stick in their games on disk it downloads stiff into your memory.... so i clean it out once a month and my machine runs a hell of a lot better LOL |

Sorry hun, I got sidetracked with my competitions...lol. In your Add/Remove Programs, it says how often you use them...occasionally, seldom, rarely, often, never...if it says never, bin it. When you do a disk clean-up, do all your drives. When it brings up your box, click on the More Options tab at the top. The bottom box says System Restore, click on the Clean Up button, click on Yes, click on Ok, then click on Yes again. It really does free up a huge amount of space. Recent Documents...you've got a folder that stores a copy or shortcut of everything you view, save or create on your pc. It might be different on yours, I'm running XP. Click on My Computer. Double-Click on C-Drive. Double-Click on Documents & Settings. Double-Click on your name if you have it set up for different users. Double-Click on Recent Documents. Click on Edit > Select All and hit delete. If you've got all your folders unhidden in My Computer, you can remove the extra cookies and temp internet files that get saved there. Even when you've cleaned them from your browser taskbar, a copy of them gets saved in your hidden files and folders. Click on My Computer. Double-Click on C-Drive. Double-Click on Documents & Settings. Double-Click on your name if you have it set up for different users. Double-Click on Local Settings (if you've got it unhidden) Double-Click on Temporary Internet Files. Click on Edit > Select All and hit delete. |

Due to your precise instructions I was able to find the documents & settings folder but it was empty, there were quite a few other folders there with wierd names can I delete these, or do I need them? |
