The Cards

A Tarot deck is comprised of 78 cards:
22 Major Arcana and
56 Minor Arcana, divided into 4 suits of 14 cards each.

The suits of the Minor Arcana are roughly analogous to the suits of a deck of playing cards:
Diamonds = Pentacles
Spades = Swords
Clubs = Wands
Hearts = Cups

Each suit also relates to one of the four Elements:
Pentacles = Earth
Swords = Air
Wands = Fire
Cups = Water
with the Major Arcana representing the fifth Element of Spirit
