Green Bean Casserole Recipes
- 2 cans (one pound each) French-style green beans
- 1 can (10 1/2 ounce) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 can (3 1/2 ounce) French fried onion rings
Drain the beans and turn into as medium oven-proof quart casserole. Add soup (undiluted), soy sauce, salt, and half of the French fried onion, and toss lightly to combine. Sprinkle the rest of the onions over the top. Heat at 350 deg. F. until onions are crisp and the suace is bubbling. This green bean casserole will serve 6.
Green Beans With Cheese Sauce
- 1 1/2 pound green beans
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion (chopped)
- 1/2 pound mushrooms
- 4 tablespoons plain flour
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon marjoram
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup grated Swiss cheese
- 4 tablespoons sherry
Trim the beans and cook in boiling salted water until just tender. Drain and keep warm. Melt the butter in a skillet and saute the onions until transparent.
Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for another five minutes.
Stir in the flour, pepper, thyme, marjoram and salt and cook over a low heat for one minute.
Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly until smooth and thick. Remove from heat.
Add the cheese and sherry and stir until the cheese is melted.
Add the beans, mix well and pour into a shallow casserole dish.
Bake, uncovered, in a 400 deg. F. oven for 1/2 hour.
