Robert Cochrane 1931-1966     Robert Cochrane was an English Witch claiming family ties to the Old Religion. He was the founder of a tradition now referred to as "1734". Doreen Valiente first met Robert in 1964, then became a member of his coven-"The Clan Of Tubal-Cain". His system was based on intuitive rituals that were more Shamanic in nature. Robert frequently expressed contempt for the Gardnerian Witches and this was one of the factors that contributed to Doreen Valiente leaving the coven. His own coven disbanded due to him becoming increasingly controlling of his group and he began an affair with one of the coven women, openly before his wife. In 1966 he was found by his neighbour unconsious, due to the ingestion of Belladonna ( Deadly Nightshade). He died three days later.
