Gods | Cernnunos Cernnunos is the Celtic Horned God and consort of the Lady ( Goddess). He is associated with the woods, wild animals, hunting, sexuality, male virility and is the elemental force of nature which is complemantary to the female mother goddess. He is also known as the Hunter as he not only gives life but takes it too in the eternal cycle of birth, death and rebirth. He is portrayed with as having horns or antlers which are considered symbols of male potency, strengh and protection and phallic symbols as well as fruitfulness and bounty. In Wicca he is sometimes referred to as The Lord, The Horned God, Great God, Great Father. He impregnates the Goddess and then dies during the autumn and winter months and is reborn in spring, while the Goddess lives on always as Mother Earth giving life to the Horned God as he goes through the cycle of life, death and rebirth. | | Herne The Hunter Herne the Hunter is British and is known as the Dark Lord, God of the Hunt and is associated with wild animals and forests. He is also associated with the gods Cernnunos and Gwyn ap Nudd, who in welsh mythology was the ruler of Annwn- the underworld and said to be the leader of the Wild Hunt, who was also depicted with horns or antlers. Herne is also said to be the manifestation of the Horned God as they are both depicted as in having antlers. In English mythology he is associated with Windsor Great Park as there is a great Oak tree which is named Hernes Oak. | | Osiris Osiris is the Egyptian counterpart of the goddess Isis. He is an all over god form including that of vegetation, harvesting, the fertile flooding of the Nile River and the after-life, being the judge of the dead. | | Lugh Lugh is the Sun and War God of Ireland and Wales. His name Lugh is also written as Lug and Lu and is pronounced Loo. He is a hero and High King and is known as Lamfhada or Long Hand for his skill with a spear or sling, Samildanach meaning multi-talented and skilled in many arts, Lonnbeimnech meaning Fierce Striker and Macnia meaning Boy Hero. Lugh instituted the harvest festival of Lughnasadh in memory of his foster mother Tailtu, this is held on August 1st. Originally it was held in the town which bears her name which is now Teltown, County Meath and Lunasa is now the Irish name for the month of August. Lugh had a dog called Failinis and was said to have invented the board game Fidchell. | | Pan Pan is the Greek God of Nature, the Woods, Pastures, Rocky Peaks, Hills,Landscapes, Laughter, Passion, Music, Personal Abandonment. Pan has the hind quarters and horns of a goat a bit like that of a Satyr, he plays low sweet music on his pipes of reed while in the company of Nymphs or Charites. He is said to be older than the Olympians and is said that he gave the goddess Artemis her hunting dogs. His Roman equivalent is Faunus. | | The Green man The Green Man is seen as the Male Spirit of Nature, Life and Growth. He is depicted as being a leafy form with leaves for hair, beard and somtimes shoots sprouting out from his mouth, eyes and nose.
