I don't normally send out these sort of emails but, unless you want to pay through the teeth to drive your car (and this will effect the poorest people in society, not the No. 10 crew in their Jaguars), please sign the petition: Democracy in action? The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible. Finally - your Passport may not be about to expired, but you might want to renew your Passport now anyway (I just have) - before it cost you a lot more with the new ID-card system see - http://www.renewforfreedom.org/ -
ID card estimated at £130 (probably a low estimate) old style passport £55 (still avialable as of now). -
Travel to London (£60-£250?) for your "interview". -
Lose a days Holiday to go for your "interview". -
or Lose a days pay to go for your "interview". -
Oh yes - and your finger prints, DNA, eye-scanned and privacy taken. -
The ID card system will be compulsory with passport renewal sometime in 2007. -
"Nothing to hide" - do you have curtains? - Why? Please forward this email to anybody you think it might be of interest to! Mike |

As of "now" there are 425,142 signatures to the above (http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/) - this is getting close to 1% of the population, I guess out of the population that can actually drive it might be nearer 2% - not too bad considering that most people wouldn't even be bothered to save themselves even if a Lugar was placed against their heads and told to dance! I guess it depends on how they try and spin this - road tax will stop terrorism? road tax will stop illegal immigrants ... ... and as I like this photo about ID cards - here it is: Mike
