It was
On a night
Much like tonight.
It was late
And you had
Still not arrived.
I sat alone
At the homecoming dance
Bored out of my mind
No one wanted
To dance with me.
As my friends
Do everything they can to
Make feel like I'm included
I know I am
All alone.
I call my mom to
Come and take me home
And then
In the midnight hour
You stroll through the door
But it's too late
I have to go
I sit on the steps outdoors
Waiting for my mom to show
And you join me
We talk for awhile;
For a moment
We're closer than
We've ever been
But sadly our time
Came to an end,
Leaving me wondering
What could have been.
