Found in a rundown Boston estate: BarackObama’s aunt Zeituni Onyango

'Auntie Zeituni', who, with Uncle Omar, dropped out of sight after moving to the US, is backing the presidential candidate from her modest flat

Barack Obama has lived one version of the American Dream that has taken him to the steps of the White House. But a few miles from where the Democratic presidential candidate studied at Harvard, his Kenyan aunt and uncle, immigrants living in modest circumstances in Boston, have a contrasting American story.

Zeituni Onyango, the aunt so affectionately described in Mr Obama’s best-selling memoir Dreams from My Father, lives in a disabled-access flat on a rundown public housing estate in South Boston.

And what's this? She can't talk to reporters until after the election?

Speaking outside her home in Flaherty Way, South Boston, on Tuesday, Ms Onyango, 56, confirmed she was the “Auntie Zeituni?in Mr Obama’s memoir.

She declined to answer most other questions about her relationship with the presidential contender until after the November 4 election. “I can’t talk about it, I just pray for him, that’s all,?she said, adding: “After the 4th, I can talk to anyone.?

Good Lord! Who told her not to talk to the press until after the election? And since someone did tell her that, isn't it obvious that Obama knows where she lives?

His half brother lives in a shack on a dollar a month and now we discover that the aunt he says he adores live in a slum while her "loving nephew", Barack Obama lives in a mansion.

When he says he's his bother's and sister's keeper, it sounds like he really means you and I are his family's keepers through taxes and welfare checks.

How do you know that obama knew she was here? I don't like him but I dn't think we claim his illegal aunt on him

Like hell.....she donated $260 to his campaign.  It is illegal to accept donations from anyone other than a US citizen or someone with a green card.  He not only knew she was here, he accepted her money illegally.

Wiley, are you saying that Obama is aware of the citizenship status of every donor to his campaign? I think he's a little too busy right now to keep up with that. If you have proof that he was aware of her status, by all means come forth with it.

And Cowboy, Obama said he was "his brother's keeper and his sister's keeper". He didn't say anything about aunts, uncles, cousins, and what- have- you.

I don't care if he claims ignorance or not....he is in violation of Federal campaign financing laws.....ignorance is no defense.  Her contributions are not the only ones in question, either.  He is an abject scumbag, showing his true Chicago machine politician side.  NO EXCUSE!

So let's recap the bullshit from Obama:

1. William Ayers is just a guy who lives in the neighborhood - no other affiliation with that terrorist at all...riiiiiigghhht.
2. He never heard Jeremiah Wright's hate sermons, even though he attended that racist hellhole of a church for 20 years, Wright officiated his wedding and baptized his kids; and has cited him as a spiritual advisor.
3. Doesn't know his auntie, to whom he affectionately refers in his book as one of his closest relatives, lives in the US illegally.
4. Won't disclose records relating to sources for his tuition in college
5. Won't disclose actual birth certificate
6. Oh, and how IS his on her deathbed granny doing these days? The tragic story of good ol' "Toot"'s melodramatic brush with death mysteriously vanished shortly after it was announced he was racing to her bedside last week (which was nothing more than a trip to Hawai'i to make sure his birth certificate is hidden).

God you people are stupid.

Oh, and for SMD,

Since you claim that illegals don't get welfare and don't qualify for public assistance, can you please explain to us how this one particular illegal is living in a public housing project and lists the Boston Housing Authority as her EMPLOYER?

Two obvious facts:

1) It's increasingly clear to honest folks that Barack Obama is lying through his teeth about his long relationships with far left loons and radicals.

2) The liberals here simply don't care that Barack Obama is politically dirty as hell.

i just went to john mccain's donation website, and then to barack obama's donation website.

the forms look pretty much identical. they gather identical information to comply with federal campaign donation laws, they require clicking a checkbox to agree that the donor is a citizen, and a few other things.

in short. these campaigns do not do extensive background checks on every single one of their donors.

it looks to me like they have identical safeguards to ward off donations by non-citizens.

Obama says he didn't know aunt's illegal status

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer Nedra Pickler, Associated Press Writer 3 mins ago

CHICAGO ?Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said Saturday he didn't know his aunt was living in the United States illegally and believes that laws covering the situation should be followed.

The Associated Press found that Obama's aunt had been instructed to leave the country four years ago by an immigration judge who rejected her request for asylum from her native Kenya. The woman, Zeituni Onyango (zay-TUHN on-YANG-oh), is living in public housing in Boston and is the half-sister of Obama's late father.

A statement given to the AP by Obama's campaign said, "Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed." Traveling with Obama in Nevada, campaign strategist David Axelrod declined to elaborate on the statement, but said: "I think people are suspicious about stories that surface in the last 72 hours of a national campaign."

An adviser to Republican John McCain's campaign, Mark Salter, said he had no comment on the reports about Obama's relative. "It's a family matter," Salter said.

The campaign said it was returning $260 that Onyango had contributed in small increments to Obama's presidential bid over several months. Federal election law prohibits foreigners from making political donations. Onyango listed her employer as the Boston Housing Authority and last gave $5 on Sept. 19.

Onyango, 56, is part of Obama's large paternal family, with many related to him by blood whom he never knew growing up.

Obama's father, Barack Obama Sr., left the future presidential nominee when the boy was 2, and they reunited only once ?for a monthlong visit when Obama was 10. The elder Obama lived most of his life in Kenya, where he fathered seven other children with three other wives. He died in a car crash in 1982.

Obama was raised for the most part by his mother and her parents in Hawaii. He first met his father's side of the family when he traveled to Africa 20 years ago. He referred to Onyango as "Auntie Zeituni" when describing the trip in his memoir, saying she was "a proud woman."

Obama's campaign said he had seen her a few times since that meeting, beginning with a return trip to Kenya with his future wife, Michelle, in 1992. Onyango visited the family in Chicago on a tourist visa at Obama's invitation about nine years ago, the campaign said, stopping to visit friends on the East Coast before returning to Kenya.

She attended Obama's swearing-in to the U.S. Senate in 2004, but campaign officials said Obama provided no assistance in getting her a tourist visa and doesn't know the details of her stay. The campaign said he last heard from her about two years ago when she called saying she was in Boston, but he did not see her there.

Onyango's refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, noncriminal violation of immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system. Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the U.S.

The AP could not immediately reach Onyango for comment. When a reporter went to her home Friday night, no one answered the door. A neighbor said she was often not home on weekends. Onyango did not immediately return telephone and written messages left at her home.

Onyango was instructed to leave the country by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango's case.

It was unclear why her request was rejected in 2004. A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Kelly Nantel, said the government does not comment on an individual's citizenship status or immigration case.

Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one a federal law enforcement official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release.

Onyango's case ?coming to light just days before the presidential election ?led to an unusual nationwide directive within Immigrations and Customs Enforcement requiring that any deportations before Tuesday's election be approved at least at the level of the agency's regional directors, the U.S. law enforcement official told the AP.

The directive suggests that the administration is sensitive to the political implications of Onyango's case coming to light so close to the election.

The East African nation has been fractured by violence in recent years, including a period of two months of bloodshed after December 2007 that killed 1,500 people.

In Boston, Lydia Agro, communications director for the Housing Authority, said Onyango had been screened and approved for public housing as an "eligible non-citizen" when she moved in in 2003. She said the authority is not notified of deportation orders and did not know Onyango was related to Obama until two days ago.

Wiley she got in under refugee status. Her refugee status was rejected but she was there under said status...also note that she may well be under appeal right now...even if it was originally rejected...as I noticed in the article it clearly said that immigration officials do not comment on individual immigration cases...so how do you know that she has not appealed? Refugees qualify for all sorts of assistence and considering that she very well may be a true refugee...

Wiley she is a refugee...so she qualifies for all sorts of things under a refugee status. It is interesting to me under which grounds that they rejected her status considering the situation in Kenya. Also, her case very well may be under appeal. Soon we will find that out and I bet this is the case since Immigration officials are running from it as if it were the Bubonic Plague...they refuse to comment on the status of the case...which means very well that they may have wrongly rejected her and her appeal may not yet have been heard. Not too long ago they rejected another African woman who came here to escape being murdered...they rejected her case...in Atlanta...she was later murdered by the same people she was running from...and they murdered her in Atlanta.
