Does anyone read Harry Potter?  I just got into it this summer.  I've read all the books that are out and saw the first three movies.  I don't think the movies did any justification to the books.  The books were really good.  Movie number four is coming out in a few weeks.  I saw at our local theatre that tickets are already on sale for the midnight show the day it comes out!  Yikes.  I'm not that into it.  Although I must say, I've never been one to rush to a movie as soon as it comes out like that.  I'm more like let everyone else go sit in a crowded theatre and I'll just wait a bit...

But I really enjoyed the books.

i think that they did....i began to read book 5-6..but after awhile i lost interest..i want to see the movies more then the books..it's sad to think that there's only going to be one  more after this...eeks

but..i think that the movie more or less plays just like the book does....

i love the books and the movies.....even if i dont 'always read them

my two neices, the older one..she starts to read the books..but doesnt' keep up the interest..but i do know that she'll be one of the first to see the new movie coming out......i think that daniel..(can't remember his last name) does an absolutelyl great jobb as harry, as do all the cast......

I love Harry Potter as well. But if my husband and I go to the show around
here, there's not too many kids that go to the late shows. So since we're
considered "senior citizens - over the age of 55), we get in at a reduced
rate anyway. Can't wait. Am trying to finish the Goblet of Fire before it
opens. Only about 800 pages, depending on which book your reading!

Yes, the books are long.  I started them in July and have read all six of the books that are out thus far.

A bunch of fans asked the writer if she would write a series based on Dumbledore's life before Harry came along and she said she would.  So maybe we'll have that to look forward to after Harry Potter is over.

cool allison..i hadn't heard of that.......way to go JK......

i've heard that alot of kids dont' want to read anything else after harry......they're trying to do other stuff along that genre...like my local bookstore is trying to resell the chronicles of narnia.......but...i'm not so sure if the kids are reading them...that's what they have in their window right now........but, it's basically JK and lord of the ring type books that they want......

I'm also a Harry Potter fan. I haven't read the latest book yet - I wanted the hype to die down a bit before I bought it - but I've really enjoyed the series so far.

I think the movies have been pretty good, to be honest. There's no way that the script for such a movie could be completely faithful to the book (for one, the movies would be way too long), but so far, they've been alright.

When I read JK Rowling, however, I am reminded of the fact that as an author, she borrows VERY heavily from other authors (including Tolkein - there are a number of "Lord of the Rings" references in the Harry Potter books). She weaves many literary stories and myths into Harry's adventures - it makes for an interesting read.

The books were really good.

I got into the books about 4 or so years ago... I think they are amazing... I don't know how kids stomach them (they are so dark)!

It's funny after the first 3 books the story is still relatively happy but when I finished book 4 (the movie that is about to come out) I walked around my apartment ranting about the end.

I hate that I have to wait a year between books.

I don't think I'll rush to the theater but I am one of the people who pre-orders the books so I'll have them on publishing day.

However, I do think the movies are good - the books contain so much information that the movies can't cover all of it - but nevertheless, they do a great job.

My roommate and I are going to see the new Harry Potter movie tomorrow. He's a big fan, I'm kind of indifferent but its better than doing homework or watching TV in the dorm. I'll give it a rating after I see it.

What did you think of the movie?  I am looking forward to seeing it - would love to know whether I should walk or run to the theater

Sorry gang. I had my days wrong the movie debuted today. I just got back from seeing it with the roomie. I'm not a follower of the books so I can't compare but the storyline and special effects were great! My roommate said it was very loyal to the fourth book.
