So anyone go on any nice vacations this year?  I love to hear about places people visited and if they enjoyed them or not.

Hopefully at least some of us have some nice vacations stories to tell.

~~Allison

I went to NYC with my two teenaged sons and my mom the week of June 19th.  I'm from the deep south and had always wanted to go, but had never been.  LOVED IT!  We had a great time together and my oldest and I were on Letterman one night and saw the new Superman, Brandon Routh (who used to be Seth on OLTL).  My dad passed away last July and June 23rd was my mom & dad's 50th wedding anniverary.  So, it was really nice for her to have her mind on fun things during that day.  We did all the cheesy tourist stuff and ate at great restaurants.  I wanted to go to Brooklyn so badly and see the ATWT studio, but I didn't get to.  I also wanted to go to Catherine Hickland's cosmetic store and didn't.  I hope to do those when I go again--because I definitely will go again.  The surprising thing to me was the friendliness of the people and their willingness to help with directions or give a restaurant recommendation, etc.  We did not encounter any rudeness and the streets were very clean.  We felt very safe as well.  We stayed at the Wellington and our bellman turned out to be Judd from Survivor Guatamala!  That was a hoot!

We went to Washington DC a few weeks ago. It was great but way too many security check points. I agree that I'd rather be safe than sorry but it did get tiring after a while. Loved everything we saw tho. Monuments, tour of the Capital bldg, even saw the movie "Cars' - highly recommended!

Then I got to go to NYC just this past weekend, got to see the broadway play 'Wicked' - much better than 'Cars'. I was shocked at how much the site of the World Trade Center effected me, I expected some emotions but I could hardly breathe, big old knot in my throat! Now, I'm back in my little town, wondering where all the people are. Why aren't there people walking up and down the streets at all hours, where's all the hustle and bustle? It's too quiet! LOL

So, both places are highly recommended in my book. :)

Woodsgal, it's been awhile since I've been to NYC and I'd love to go again.  It's such a good time; great shopping; eating; shows.  Lots to do and see.  Sounds like you had a great time.

MomtoRNC, I grew up about 1 1/2 hours from the D.C. area.  It's nice to go see all of the sites our Nation's capital has to offer.  You're right about the checkpoints though, they'vee really hyped it up since 9-11.  You got to do NYC and D.C....that's the way to do it!

I get to go to the beach next week and I'm really excited.  I'll let everyone know how it is.
