I thought we'd start a discussion about Dusty's return.  What does everyone think has happened to bring this about???  Here's my thoughts on it:

Since Lucinda was in on it, she had someone else do the autopsy and state that he was dead (or somone from the hospital was also in on it with Lucinda and Dusty), . She probably struck up some sort of deal with Dusty to locate Lucy and Johnny knowing that Craig was out there searching as well. Lucinda probably wanted Dusty to find them first to warn them that Craig was also searching for them.
The reason Dusty would appear dead was to deal with Craig. If Craig knew Dusty was on the trail of Johnny, then he would either follow Dusty and try get Johnny, or try to stop Dusty from finding them.
Lucinda didn't mean to get Lily stuck in the middle it just happened. But I'm sure that she would have stepped in if Lily was in real trouble. As it turns out, Lily reconciled with Holden (at least temporarily) which was a good thing.
My stupid way of thinking about James (which knowing the writers ideas doesn't sound too bad), is that James is looking for a heir to take his place. Since he constantly complains about Paul not being man enough to carry the Stenbeck name, he wants to get someone (doesn't matter who) and thought that Johnny would be a good subsititute. Now that Meg is pregnant, it would make more sense for him to have a blood heir so he will not force the issue with Dusty and Johnny.

James already has other blood heirs... remember Jordan Sinclair - alternate son of James and the real father of baby Cabot - thus James has both another son and a grandson already.

Secondly, Dusty (albeit the real heir to the Stenbeck fortune/title) is not recognized by James as being an heir and is also not the biological father of Johnny.  Thus James would have no concern about them - other than to kill Dusty off to keep him from claiming title to the Stenbeck fortune... which he never has tried nor likely will try to do.

James wanted Cabot - not Johnny.  And I would love to have Jordan and Cabot back too!
