In addition to using vegetable oils as a base for essential oils, you can use a cream or lotion. Use a frangrance-and lanolin-free cream made from plant products. A lotion is best used if you need to apply essential oils over a large area. To stop the lotion from dragging the skin, add a small amount of jojoba or avocado oil. This also makes a more nourishing blend.
Creams are ideal for creating your own moisturizer or perfumes. Add a small amount of jojoba, peach or avocado oil to obtain the consistency required for your skin type. For a dry complexion, avocado. For problematic skin, add evening primrose.
Essential oils added to creams can be used for various skin problems such as Athlete’s foot, cold sores, insect bites, spots, minor cuts and grazes, rashes, sunburn, psoriasis and eczema. If the oils are to be used as in antiseptic or to combat conditions such as thrush, they are easier to use with a cream as your base.
