Yes, you can give them a little as a treat. My tiels, G2 and Alexandrine love it! I make them hot air popped popcorn on occasion, especially around this time of year. I usually string some for the outside birds & tree rats as well. Not too much or too often though as I don't think it's very nutritious. Good treat though.

I laugh every time I see tree rats..... In the evening by the train tracks in Chicago, you can see the real things and they are a heck of a lot bigger than our 'country cousins' ... think they are a lot meaner too.

Last time we went over to my nieces house, a HUGE rat ran across the road in front of our car.  She lives waaay out in the country.  I've never seen such a big rat.  She has a bunch of kitties in her barn to keep the mice population down, but that rat was as big as her kitties.  I shudder every time I think of it.....

Oh, my birdies love popcorn.  I buy the mini packets.  It is enough for a handful for all 5 birds, and a handful left over for me.

Air popped corn is a great treat!  Other "foraging" foods can be nuts (unsalted in and out of shell), natural cereals (cheerios, corn flakes, shredded wheat bites, chex, etc...) unsulfured and unsweetened dried fruits....blueberries, cranberries, coconut, etc...
Others may have items to add to this list!

Pookie (indian ringneck) loves popcorn.  When I make some (not often), she gets a piece or two that night, and I save a few more pieces that she gets over the next week or so.  She loves raw corn on the cob- so anything crunchy & with corn flavor is right up her alley.

Another "treat" she loves is when I buy plain oyster crackers at the holidays.  I jazz them up with a recipe (herbs etc) to make "cocktail crackers" for get-togethers, but she just gets one plain one.  It is the perfect size for her to hold and is not salted on top like saltine crackers are.  My fiance is so sweet- on the rare occasion he orders clam chowder or chili in a restaurant & gets the little packet of oyster crackers- he always gives them to me to take home to Pookie.

Gosh, I haven't had oyster crackers in years! will have to try to remember some the next time I go to the store.
When we go out to 'our' resturant, they give us sesseme (sp?) breadsticks, and the greys love those!

Oyster crackers!  I hadn't thought about those is a very long time either!
Speaking of crackers - look in the babyfood section of your supermarket!  They have some small boxes of veggie crackers in cute shapes and colors.  Most have no salt or sugar.

Okay two of you snuck "tree rats" in the subject.  What is a tree rat?  I know...... I am changing the subject from popcorn but I got the shivers just thinking of rats in trees.

Make me want to go cut my trees down?  lol!  I cannot imagine rats up in a tree.

Squirrels are tree rats. They truly are rodents, but so cute. We love ours. I have a very pregnant one again.
And another who is a little bit pregnant.

ummmm - we have tree rats in California....or palm rats. they live in the palms and when my old dog was younger she would proudly bring me a rat every few days or so. They don't exactly swing limb from limb but they're a huge pest and the reason I can't have a bird feeder!
