It is with much sadness that I post this. Last Tuesday night, two days before Thanksgiving, my precious budgie, Virgil Gilbert, passed away suddenly at the age of 7 years. He'd been acting different the day before he passed, eating well but not playing with his toys and talking as much as he normally does, then Tuesday night he took a turn for the worse, sitting puffed up in front of his mirror and he wasn't eating. He passed away peacefully Tuesday night around 11:50 PM. Kramer, my 7 year old cockatiel, and I have had a rough several days. Kramer has been doing a lot of screeching and crying, and wants me with him constantly. He's doing a little better now, but I know he still misses his little buddie. I've been spending as much time with him as I can, and his unconditional love has been a big help with my own grieving. My golden retriever, Jenny, also had a scare not long ago, when her vet found a tumor between her toes that turned out to be a form of skin cancer. The tumor was removed and thank God the cancer has not returned and she's doing well. She's nine years old now. She still sleeps in the livingroom next to the table where Virgil's cage was, and I can tell she misses him too. I'm so sorry I've been away from the group for so long, as personal circumstances and other things have kept me busy. I also lost my job in August and have been unable to find another job so I've been under stress. Here is a photo of my baby, enjoying a conversation with his beloved mirror. I hope all is well with everyone here and you all have a blessed holiday season. Love, Nancy, Kramer and Jenny |

It is always so sad and lonley when they leave us and how we miss them. I am sorry for your loss and blessings for comfort and peace. The other pets and flock miss the one who went on ahead and they too grieve... I wonder what it takes to grieve, a soul? a loving heart? then we all have that kinship and feel your pain Nancy .... |

I just feel like crying myself when a member loses a precious feathered friend. So very sad. Especially with Kramer missing Virgil so much, and having a scare with Jenny, on top of losing your job. It all seems to hit at one time. You take care Nancy; you are in my prayers. Barb |

Thank you all SO MUCH for your comforting words and prayers!! Kramer, Jenny and I are hangin' in there. Kramer continues to screech and cry for me, especially in the morning around the time I get up and he doesn't stop until I let him out of the cage, but otherwise he seems to be doing better. He's eating well, and today when I let him out he was very active, playing and exploring and flying back and forth between his cage and the furniture. Right now he's resting in his cage, but earlier he was wolf whistling! Last night, I had a dream about Virgil. He was up in a tree, and I coaxed him down and held him in my hand and petted him. He looked so real, and I could feel the softness of his feathers. I believe this was a dream visit from him, letting me know that he's OK up in heaven. Hugs, Nancy, Kramer and Jenny |
