Trade special effects for speed
| Is your computer moving like molasses on a cold day? Do your eyes ache from watching things creep along at a glacial pace? Maybe you have too many special effects working. Windows has a number of these, and they can be power hogs. Consider disabling some of them:
In Windows 98/ME, right click the Desktop and click Properties and Effects. Uncheck the boxes at the bottom in the Visual Effects area if you think you can do without them.
Windows XP has a lot of Visual Effects. They're a little harder to find, but we'll get 'em. --Open Windows Explorer --Right click My Computer --Click Properties>>Advanced --Under Performance, click Settings --Select Visual Effects, if necessary --For fastest performance, select "Adjust for best performance." The default is "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer" That's easy. --If you're a do-it-yourselfer, click Custom and select the effects you like.
