GOOGLE MAY KNOW MORE ABOUT YOU THAN YOU THINK I have been getting a lot of e-mail about this new tool at Google.com. Try typing your telephone number (area code first such as 212-555-1212) at the search site, Google.com. You might be surprised at the results.
If you're in the phone book, Google returns your name, address and a map showing your home's location. If this upsets you, take action. You can remove yourself. Click the phone icon and complete the form.
Remove your name from search Web sites
Q. I would like to have my name and address removed from several search Web sites. I signed a guest page on a site years ago. Is this possible?
A. Even when a Web site goes to heaven, your name will still be around. That's because search engines archive Web sites. So does the Wayback Machine. Write to the search engine and make your request. You may be ignored, because the search engine has no way of knowing if you are who you say you are. If you're really serious, have a lawyer write a letter to the site.
