Let's Talk About Hobbies

When I was a teenager my hobby was BOYS!  After I married my hobby was babies!  Now as a grandmother, my hobby is the computer.  Everyone knows that most grandmothers cook, sew, knit, garden, read, etc.  Let me tell you about my experiences with those "hobbies".

1. Cooking - My kids don't want me in the kitchen anymore as I am on first-name basis with the firemen!  I stick to the microwave now.

2. Sewing - When my girls were little I decided to make them some new dresses.  I bought all the necessary stuff (and then some) and happily sewed away.  Well, the darts were crooked and the facing poked out, but when I accidentally sewed the arm holes up, I gave up on that idea!  I did get the zipper in pretty good though!

3. Knitting - When my granddaughter Bridgette was a baby I started knitting a pink afghan for her.  I would knit away until it looked about 4 ft. long then turn and go back the other way.  The edges weren't even but it didn't look too bad so I kept going.  Then I got tired of that and put it away for awhile.  She's 23 now and the afghan is still in the closet!   Oh well!!

4. Gardening - We had a nice garden many years ago.  I spent many hours planting, watering, weeding, spraying, etc.  Then the bugs, gophers, and rabbits got to it before I did.  However, I did manage to get a nice handful of carrots about the size of my little finger and a few green beans!

5. Reading - When I was in school we had to read so many books for required reading and I never did like all those big thick classic type books.  I could never sit still long enough to get through a chapter.  Then the teacher would ask us to write a book report.  Oh no!  Now I have a nice collection of wonderful books that make good coffee table decorations.  I'm saving them for my old age when I'm bedridden with nothing else to do!

Now you know why I'm having a delightful time on my computer!  Maybe I've finally found my niche.

Maybe I'll finish that afghan for her one of these days.  Right now there's not much to it.  All I know is one stitch so I was just having fun!  I'm not sure if I can even remember how now.
