Boring Church Services"

"Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy Spirit]."  1 Thessalonians 5:19 - Amplified Bible

Why does there seem to be a lack of joy in going to the House of God anymore?  I have seen a decline of enthusiasm in church attendance over the past several years.  There are several reasons, but one reason I believe is because the Holy Spirit isn't having His way in our services.  We plan how things are going to go in the service and aren't leaving room for Him to enter into the "program".  We are concerned about making sure the worship time sounds just right, the preaching isn't too long, and everything follows a certain pattern.  When the Spirit isn't given liberty you can expect a "dry, dead" service, because He is the Spirit of Life and when He comes in He breathes life into our services.  He breathes a breath of "fresh" air on us.  It's a time of refreshing to our souls that takes place.  When He is given liberty, things happen- it won't be the "same ole, same ole"; because He is always doing a "new thing" - something that we aren't expecting.  Look at what happened on the Day of Pentecost when He came into the house where they were assembled.  I know that this was the first time that the Holy Spirit came and entered into the believers so there was a greater manifestation of His presence, but even after that when He was given liberty to do the will of the Father, people were healed, delivered, set free, added to the church, and restored.

We can't do anything without the Holy Spirit.  Our efforts are in vain.  And our church services reflect this.  When men try to do it (conduct services without the Spirit) they are dry, dead, boring, and produce nothing of eternal value.  When the Holy Spirit is allowed to take control lives will be changed, what is dead will come to life, and what is weak will be strengthened.  Church will definitely be anything but boring.  Knowing that the Spirit is in control and will meet with us causes the "gladness" to come back so that we can then say, "I was glad when they said unto me, 'Let us go into the house of the Lord.'"

Have a great day.  The Holy Spirit's control makes all the difference- in our lives and in our church services.
