CONQUERING FEAR

We love to read stories of heroes so brave,
Who willingly fight to defend
The things they believe in, with courage and strength;
Who would lay down their lives for a friend.

But most of us find we are not quite so brave,
For we always have worries and fears.
We struggle through life in the depths of despair,
With the sunshine obscured by our tears.

We start out as children afraid of the dark,
And we worry our way all through school.
Each day brings new fears as we strive to fit in,
And try not to break every rule.

We fear we won’t find our true soul-mate to love,
And fear that we can’t pay our bills.
We’re afraid we’ll be weak in the battles of life,
And will never ascend to the hills.

Then each day that passes brings fears of its own,
As the years take their toll on our health.
We find that old age is relentless and cruel,
As it creeps up with cunning and stealth.

If we would just trust and believe in the Lord,
When He tells us to have no more fear,
We could cast all our cares and our worries on Him,
And we’d know He would always be near.

We could claim every promise we read in His Word,
And receive His forgiveness from sin.
While brave in the strength that He alone gives,
All the battles of life we could win.

Dear Lord, cleanse our hearts from the doubtings we have,
And may we not stray from the fold.
As we fight the good fight, keep us strong to the end,
Till at last Your dear face we behold.
