A Joyful Noise

Psalm 98

4 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

5 Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.

6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.

I love music, especially Christian Music. There are many different styles and forms of music in today's society. Even in the Christian genre of music, there is a large spectrum of musical styles and I'll bet that none of them resemble the style of music that was used in David's temple. Music is the product of a culture and you will find that styles of music vary from culture to culture. It is possible that the style of music that you prefer is different than the style that I prefer.  It's important to note that the "style" doesn't matter as long as it glorifies God and spreads His message to the listeners.

Music plays an important role in our society. It also plays an important role in our spiritual life. Music surrounds us every day and affects us in ways that we may not realize. Music is a powerful. It can be used to lift the spirits of the listener and create and atmosphere of happiness and joy. Music can also be used as tool of evil that can drive the listener down paths of destruction.  Music is a powerful tool and it's important that we use music in a way that glorifies God and benefits His kingdom..

How does music affect you today? How are you using it? David reminds us to make a joyful noise UNTO THE LORD. I play drums and I think that I have fulfilled the "noise" requirement <grin>. However, at times, it is very easy to for me to forget who my audience is.  I always try to remind myself that my music should be directed to the Lord and not to the ears of others.

"There is no fear of our being too hearty in magnifying the God of our salvation, only we must take care the song comes from the heart, otherwise the music is nothing but a noise in his ears, whether it be caused by human throats, or organ pipes, or far resounding trumpets. Loud let our hearts ring out the honours of our conquering Saviour; with all our might let us extol the Lord who has vanquished all our enemies, and led our captivity captive: He will do this best who is most in love with Jesus:" - C.H. Spurgeon

Today, find some Christian music, in the style that you prefer, and use it to enhance your spiritual walk.

May God bless your day with a song in your heart,
