Hi all:

Look I typed in green for gardening. I am just so witty. (LOL)

I like to garden I think.  Last year was my first year at trying it.  I got seeds for tomatoes and grew them inside in a little plastic greenhouse then I planted them outside and I got about 3 cherry size tomatoes out of about 8 stalkes.  I think I have a blue thumb. (LOL)

Anyway has anyone heard of the earthbox it is suppose to be this fool proof box that anyone can grow anything in.  I thought I would see if anyone knew about this before I wasted my money. It costs $29.95 plus $6.95 shipping although there is a 1 year money back guarantee.

Anyway I thought this would be a little change of topic. And a different kinda of pain.

Thanks
Patti

Meg, there are gardening benches sold in catalogs that are reversible. One side is padded for kneeling on, and it has high handles shaped like upside-down Us to help you stand up again.  Or you can flip it over and sit on it and the handles become legs.  I'm pretty sure the Miles Kimball catalog sells it, and I'm sure Gardening catalog would too.

Patti, don't waste your time trying to grow tomatoes from seeds.  You can buy tomato plants several inches high at any gardening center.  I never heard of the Earth Box, but if you ask at the nursery when is the best time to plant, you should be fine.  Also ask about having your soil tested; I seem to recall tomatoes like a particular kind.  Invest in some inexpensive netting to protect them until they're producing, too, and get stakes to tie them upright.  You can probably do all of that for less than the cost of an Earth Box.

Patch I have grown tomatoes in a  bucket on my balcony,  no special dirt just regular old potting soil.  I dont add nothing but water and so far I get tomatoes.
I have tried orderingthings and by the time they get here they are moldy or dead already.  So not worth the money.
I go to the little way out of the way gardening places.  Their prices are usually cheaper.
And they like you to talk with them and they are very helpful. At least that is what I find.
Good luck on your gardening

I am also into gardening, and I will reply later, I am not able to tonight. But I always buy the tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers as plants as well, they are usually cheap, like 4/$1.00.  Lot's of manuue and Miricle Grow will have those growing really great for you.
If you do them in pots, use potting soil.
I gotta go, but am pleased with  this gardening idea on the site. I am converting it to containers and fowering shrubs and low maitance plants because of my back.  It is just a little patch anyways! Here are 3 pics of my garden perennials.

I've got a couple three earth boxes, and they're OK.  But they're not the miracle things thier inventor makes them out to be. My corn sucked.  My tomatoes, did OK.  The flowers did best.

So, while I'm growing some winter onions in one now, I'm going to stick to flowers in them.

Love and hugs,

Dan
