.Hannah,
My memory garden is not fancy and it isn't hard to do at all. It all started when an old artist friend of mine passed away a few years ago. When they cleaned out his house there was an old clay vase that was uglier than sin that was going to be thrown out. Well we never did figure out what Griff saw in the darn thing but I haul it home and it wieghts some 30 or so pounds and I set it out on the corner against that ugly old phone post. Then I gathered up old rocks and some things and planted some flowers and things. I did it because he always was a bit of a rebel and so am I and it just seemed right at the time and still does. So I have expanded it this year and in time it will take the whole corner.
But what matters most about the little garden is that it makes me feel good and makes me happy and it reminds me of those who went before. There is Griff the artist, Tony the farmer with big hands who always waved, Clarence who was another farmer who always had a kind word and so goes the list. It is a place that I can visit and remember those who only walked with me a short time and remember the value in the lessons of love they taught me. So each time I lose someone like this, I place them in my memory garden and I can visit whenever I need a special kind of lift to go on. We learn much from our close friends and reletives, but sometimes the best lessons we learn are from those we least expect to ever think would make an impact on our lives.

 Dear Hannah,

What a great idea!!!! I am sure those who have passed on are looking down at your memory garden and are very touched.!!!

I have fibromyalgia with many other things that go with it but so
far I am able to work full time. My Pain managment Dr. has put me on a durgesic patch and that is doing wonders for me.  There is actually protocal
that is there to trea those with fibro. I have already gone through the Ultram then the vicodin and percocet(never helped, and am now on the Duragesic
Patch.  I don't know where we will go after this except to increase the
duragesic patch but, I am not going to worry about it. I am just going
to enjoy any time I have without pain.

My job as a Medical Technologist can be very stressful and sometimes
I have to work in an area that I don't get to sit down for 81/2 hours.
Those are grueling.  I am afraid I am going to be on disablitity within
the next 6 years ago. I hope they come up with something for fibromyalgia

Regarding the memory garden:  I had meningitis, my brother had it and my niece had it and did not make it. She was only 14 years old and a beautiful
loving girl. She never had a headache. She seizured after waling into the
ed room then went into a coma. They then lifeflighted her out and she went brain dead.  She told my twin sister that she was going to be with the angels
and she did. My mom has a memory garden for her and each year they
add something to it. It will probably fill the whole back yard in a few
years. It is nice to look at it and think about her. I miss her soooo
much and the garden always reminds me that she is at home with our King.
I read your posting and just had to send you a letter and let you know that
what you are doing is absolutely wonderful not only for the person that
has passed on but also the family that appreciates you keeping their loved
one alive.
God bless you,
Sheila Hicks A.K.A. Sammiemedt

Hello Hissy & Sammie
Sammy, I must tell you right off, Hissy has the Memory Garden, not I.  But I asked Hissy about her Memory Garden, and I also love the idea!  When you visit your garden, you will be swept away into memories of friends and times spent with people now gone.
I bet the Memory garden for your niece is wonderful Sammie! A beautiful tribute.

I do have plants I bought with gift certificates my various family members gave me, so I guess that is a beginning of having one, as I think of the plants I purchased with the certificates,  from them.
I am working on making my little garden (I have a small yard) into a low maitnance garden, with plants that require little care, rather than annuals and things I have to be pruning and dead heading all the time.
Thank-you both for telling me about your memory gardens, I am going to put some thought into something in my garden in tribute of my family.
