Hi everyone it little old me Sharona its been awhile.  I haven't been doing to well healthwise.  I'm sorry don't go on line alot.

I do have a question for my experience group here.
What is everyones opinon on have an neck Epidural done in a surgery center?  My husband is scheduled for one and he is scared to death.  Pain doctors tried everything and nothing is helping with pain.  He hurt his neck at work March, 24th and it has gotten worse since.  My Neuro looked at it and didn't say to operate he is second opinion doctor the pain doc sent him to.  He was told to try the Epidural.  I have never had one I have only gone straight to surgery 9 times for my back and 1 time for my neck.

What is everyone's opinon on that Epidural and has anyone here had it and got good results?  Thanks everyone please help we don't know if it is safe or not.  Don't want to be paralyzed. (sp).
Love ya all!
Hugs,

I'm assuming you mean an epidural steroid injection?  Epidural is just the name of the space they put the medicine into, so it doesn't really describe what he is having done.  I've had the injections before in my low back, but not my neck.  I did have some good temporary relief, but temporary is the key word.  Some people it actually makes their pain go away permanently, but that is not as common.  Relief can be anywhere from a few hours to a month or more depending on exactly what is in injection, how much, and how each person responds differently to the same medications.

Now I have scarring in the epidural space, and so medications don't travel up and down the spine as they should.

I would say it is generally safe, but you should be able to ask the doctor about statistics for success vs. complications, and how long the good feeling should last.  It's worth a try!

Thanks Jen I read your reply to my husband.  We know nothing about these injections just that it is for his neck and a long, long needle.  My sister said they are given in the neck for the neck and spine for the spine is that true.  I think the 2 Dan's had it done and some of the others I remember in this great group.  I don't know what they are using or anything.  All I know is trigger point didn't work.  Now it's the Epidural injection they want to do and try to take the neck pain away.  They told him he has Myofascial Syndrome or Pain and the injury activated it.  Help anymore input is so appreciated all.  He is on 4 to 5 pain pills aday doctor allows 6 .  We refused the medication Oxycontin scared of it all the horror stories.  I take pain meds since 94 and man what a big hassle to ask for pain relief.  Now my husband knows what it is like to live with pain day in and day out.  I told him welcome to my world and told his pain doctor to.
Hugs, Sharon

I'd take the Oxycontin LONG before I'd risk an injection in my neck, Sharona. The reason they do epidural injections in the lumbar spine is because the spinal cord ISN'T in that space; it IS in the neck. You want to be damn sure his doctor has a LOT of experience with epidural injections in the neck before agreeing to have one! Just my opinion.

Thanks Cyndy I appreciate your input and think if it were me I agree with you 100%.  My husband is scared and me to.  I am going to read your reply to him.  I hope all is going well for you.  Good to hear from you I haven't been in to good of shape lately.  Plus been trying to get some teeth made for a year now.

Hi Sharon! I am so happy to see you, it's been ages!
Personally speaking, the only neck injections I had were trigger point injections, and honestly, I will never have them in my neck again. It seemed to make the inflamation so much worse. They were not into the spinal column though, they were the freezing under the skin type. Sometimes they helped my back a lot, sometimes made it feel worse.
Good idea to ask around before your husband decided to do it or not.
Keep us posted.
I have a new e-mail address you may not have, it is on my bio page.
Bye for now
Hannah

Thanks everyone and Hannah good to hear from you to hon.  It just seems that there is no time anymore for computers.  I have been going through so much healthwise and everything.  I always think of all of you and how your doing.  I will have to catch up and see how the two Dan's are.  I will get your email.  Thanks for the help and those trigger injections made my husband worse to.
Hugs, Sharon
