Hi All,

Boy have we been having fun in the UK... As you know medical science or my quack has given up noting more we can do old chap. But... we can send you on a ...

Pain Management Program its a combination aprocah to living with pain i was ment to be sendt to this program 4 years ago...errr doc it's been 6 years !

This has a srink and Phisio and a pain crontrol doctor and it runns twice a week for 6 weeks this is the end of week 1 and im not impressed so far a gem is you should be exercising 30 minuets a day. I can just about walk 300 yeards without wanting to colapse in pain! But it's not all bad some of the relaxation stuff and the latest theories like the gate therory on pain are intresting. So as we progress anything especially intresting or really stupid i will pass on here.

Have a great realaxing and pain free weekend!

_James

I've found I can do 30 minutes on the stationary bike pretty easily any more. Starting out was pretty tough, but it got easier as I kept after it.  I think that's true with just about any exercise.

I'm with your docs, James.  I know it hurts, but anything you can do, give it a try.

The gate theory does sound interesting.  I'll google that when I get a minute.

Hi Dan,

I had better explain why i am so bothered by them trying to get us to exercise that much in the UK here all your benifits are on how mobile you are. I get a allowance called the DLA Disabled Living Allowance and i achive the hihest level that states i can only walk 20 yards without extreme discomfort. By Law all medical staff if they belive a person is not being truthfull can and will telephone the benifits agency and so can ordanary poeople and your benifits will be stoped instantly and we have to then prove with a long medical we are that bad.
Now most very disabled people here are constantly worred about this because were made to feal like were being watched by nasty commercals and posters if i could i whould come off benifits just because i hate living like this as i have already had a private investigator film me for a month about my insurance claim and they passed the film onto the benifits agency but it proved i was this disabled...

Now back to the quacks on this course im just very nurvious what the agenda for the course is as it is set up by the govament here. Maybe im just paranoid but big bother may well be watching here it's getting crazy!

It's not paranoia if they really are watching you, James. Why do you think I changed my hotmail address to "OrwellLives"?? Because MSN screwed around with my original passport account and denied me access to this community under my original account unless I agreed to let them snoop in my e-mail and I said no way in hell. So I set up a new hotmail account and told 'em knock yourselves out, then just ignored that account. Big Brother is alive and well in more ways than we can ever imagine, and he's growing like a weed.

Hi All,

Ok gang it's the end of week 2 on the exciting pain management program and we have been looking at anatomie sorta intresting but i did a o-level course in human boilogy at school( For the Americans it's a high school advanced level course) More about the gate control theory of pain i will do a seprate post about that later with some web refrences if anyone is intrested?
The exercise program is ramping up fast and after a off the record chat with a senour doctor yup my suspissions were right this course is designed to get as many people slightly above the limits of DLA and so have to go back to work. Now i dont have a problem with people who are disable who want to work but forcing people i belive is sick just to make someones numbers sound better in the dang press better is moraly wrong.
The people one this course are great and a couple should be along to join soon as im pressing for this group to be included in the internet help and advice section of the course. This is because i belive this groups helps so much and were a net to catch ourselves before we fall and the help and knowledge from profesionals like Jen and knowledge like Dan and humor from Adam makes this group so special.

Next week looks good we brushed over the different types of medication how they should be used and the danger drugs and next week there is a thick handout so i will post what looks intresting and if anyone wants anything please let me know as the questions and answr sessions are the most intresting part of the course and hopefully i can get off these dam pills that just make me sick and bugger all pain control and get back on the patches o well..

Have a pain free weekend everyone!

Err this weeks exciting installmant,

Hi all well it's been a strange week this week tuesday half the peple were off sick with a cold bug going around i can not remember did i tell you as usual i am the youngest there by about 20 years!  Well enought of that as i was saying Tuesday was mostly exercise and more on the mind control side of pain and better setting of goals and staying on the right side of the pain curve.
Thursday was far better still more exercising err Jen's not here is she im starting to really dislike PT's current members excepted!  It was Bob's day he is the pain control quack as he puts it a vey funny and helpfull man so it was drugs, drugs and more drugs a fun afternoon he went over the best drugs for what and why, When you should take both long term and short acting drugs, more on the pain curve and then went over everyons percription with a fine toothed combe and boy was he not impressed when he got to me so im back on patch's off lot's of worthless stuff and shortend my list by over 1/2 and im really starting to feel not good but better than i have felt in a few years!
So i have gone from very worred about this program to a convert. Well im off to the garden my apple tree is groaning in fruit and there is scrumpy to be maid. Have a pain free weekend everyone...

I heard that! LOL

Glad to hear your enjoying the course!  I did a course like that about a year ago, and I had a good experience as well.  I really think the team approach, with pain management physician, psychologist, and PT is the way to go!

James, this is very interesting to read. I am glad you have been able to function on less meds, that must feel nice. I hate how pain meds make you feel, other than the pain relief of course.
Now, what is this scrumpy you speak of? It is lovely you have an apple tree, are you a city or country boy?

Scrumpy cider is a delicious beverage enjoyed by many people throughout the world. People commonly make scrumpy cider from windfalls, or scrumps, but to others the term describes a very rough, cloudy and unsophisticated cider. The term is generally applied to younger ciders that have yet to fully mature.

Err Hi Jen,

Where is Adam when i need help! It's ok i belive it's in the contract that we all hate exercise and doing things that is said to make us better but makes us feel worse for a while it's the little kid syndrome ' I don't want to do that!'
But seriously i do more better and the bad habbits we build up over a lifetime oh boy...

Hi Hannah and Cyndy,

Yes my family likes cyder and i love all food and drink even if i can not drink the stuff these days, I do make a meen drink but it's very bad for hangovers if your not used to it

I am a country boy i grew up in a old walker mill as a child and lived in the same village for 30 years but now i live in the outskirts of a town overlooking the sea it's very green quite and peacefull here mostly apart from the next door neibour reving his moterbike at the moment! We have 5 apple trees 4 are small and one must be over 100 years old it's huge and i dont climd that good these days so it's picked from the ground and i can fall off that these days

Yes less drugs is very good i just love patchs no up and downing just relief i just hope using Hydrocortisone cream stops the chemical burning i was and still am getting but it's a small thing to put up with for some reduction in pain easecially going into winter i hate cold!

Have a pain free weekend everyone!
_James

Hi All, Oh how the course has flown the penultimate week with just Tuesday to go I won’t miss getting up earlier than normal twice a week... OK this week we have been exercising and stretching in various ways trying to improve our core muscles I did have to sit out so of the last meeting the whole guided relaxation and visualising is no pint with no visual memory and I relax just the same by reading a good book... A bit more in debt about our drugs and the best way and combination of taking the drugs and joining all the program together with coping strategies for coping with bad days and how to shorten the days needed to recover from them. I will scan all the papers and post them when I get a few seconds free... This is almost all there were allot of free roaming discussions on how to cope with jobs or together things in your life and different ways and solutions we have found and I think we all had a few good and very bad ideas... Well have a good weekend folks off to batten down the hatches the pond is overflowing and it's hammering down and it's freezing oh joy.... _James

Hi James
How are you keeping? I have this image of where you live in England, helped by watching international real estate on tv, he he. I picture rainy and cold outside but cozy inside with a kettle boiling on the stove and a cat curled up in a chair.
Is it your pond? Do you fish in it? Does it freeze over enough to skate on, if skating were something in our worlds (ha ha, yeah right)
