I've recently stopped taking sleeping pills and would like to get some tips on getting a good nights sleep. What works for you? Herbal remedies, essential oils, natural remedies.... Thanks in advance, sleep on it |

Hot milk. (heating it causes a chemical change that helps a person get drowsy) An after dinner walk. Some people like the herbal teas with chamomile, like Sleep Time Tea. A shower or bath, then read in bed for a while. Meditation.

Hi, I too have trouble sleeping even with a sleeping pill. I read a book called The Promise of Sleep. In it the author suggested doing this: 1. Inhale a deep breath to the count of 15 seconds. 2. Hold that breath for 15 seconds. 3. Slowly let the breath out to the count of 15 seconds. He states that most people cannot do this 15 times before they fall asleep. I will let you be the judge and then tell you my results. I hope this helps. Sleepless nights are rough. love grama deb |

Avoid ALL forms of caffeine after, say, 3 PM. That includes coffee, tea, cola drinks, caffeinated drinks like Mountain Dew or Red Bull, and chocolate in any form. I find watching TV in bed makes me drowsy, so my TV has a sleep timer and I'll set it for an hour when I find myself getting sleepy. I put the TV on a channel that's low-key (not a lot of movement), such as QVC or HSN and drift off to sleep, and the TV shuts itself off on the timer. Works great for me. Something about the light in the dark room must make me sleepy, so I figure, why fight it?

Boy, could I tell you a tale of woe 46 years long!! I haven't had a full nights sleep since I hit puberty. I go to bed at 11pm every night, lay there until around 2 or 3 in the morning and wake up at 6:30am. They put me on mirapex for the RLS and sleeping pills to help me relax. It helps some, I get more rest out of the sleep I do get. Let me see, some of the things that help me at times are hot tea just before bed, read a very boring book that will make you drowsy, a nice hot shower before bed, or zone out with the tv on low. {that one doesn't help relations with your significant other though!!} Sure hope you find some relief soon. Take care. lots of love gramanan |
