I live in California, so not much help there! As for my reply to your first email, I suppose you can just ignore my suggestion for the pain clinic. I had great success with mine, so they aren't all bad! I like the idea of well-rounded care. There is more to managing chronic pain than just seeking medications. Really, medications are only part of the battle. There needs to be mental strategies in place, physical stretches and relaxation techniques. There is managing a schedule and pacing activities, and don't forget support groups :) I recommend keeping an open mind. Just because pain clinics have not worked well for you in the past doesn't mean there aren't good ones out there. Keep your head up, and don't give up the fight! |

Hello, Kalia. Welcome to the family. I'm Dan, one of the managers here. We're glad you found us, though sorry you have pain issues that forced you to go looking for a support group. But you found one. Let's see if I can address your question. Your first problem is you're in New York State. That's a state that's not known for progressive doctors. And you're upstate New York where there's even fewer doctors. Is there a reason you're set on an internist? Is your pain internally based? Usually pain docs are anesthesiologists with a specialty in pain management, even if they're not associated with a pain clinic. There is a web site, www.pain.com that has a search engine that searches for pain clinics, though you said you didn't want one of those. I think it searches for pain doctors too. Over on the left is a lot of information on chronic pain. Let us know if you have more questions. Healing hugs and lots of love, Dan |

i agree jen. i HAVE other modalities in place: always have. i get regular acupuncture care, i take Reiki treatments, i meditate, i walk for exercise, i've had numerous injections into my spine, to no great relief...i WAS at a pain clinic...i left when i realized the psychologist was a freak! he truly was. just recently i took myself to another pain management specialist. i can't even begin to tell you how disastrous it was. and i was called an addict. we didn't exactly click. i have always pursued alternative, complimentary modalities to deal with pain. pain meds actuallly have been the last resort for me...and now the doctor i am with thinks i don't need them. well bully for her! so, just to let you know.....i do do the other stuff and i appreciate the fact that the meds are just one piece of the puzzle. thanks. |
