Unfortunately, there are a lot of doctors who just don't want to prescribe narcotics UNLESS you have something broken, a deformity they can see, etc. Many doctors consider fibro a "garbage can term"; at least they did a few years ago....fortunately they've changed their minds, thank goodness.
But the thing is you have PAIN....and if nothing else relieves the pain for you, why can't you take narcotics?? Did you tell this doctor that the pain meds are the only way you get any relief?? Sometimes they just don't hear us. You can ask this doctor how are you supposed to do the 'normal things in your day when you are in too much pain'...and that you 'want the least amount of pain meds to help you get through a day'. Hopefully, the doc will "get it".
Good luck and hope that you can get it through to this rheumy about what you need and why you need it. Hang in there!
