Angie:
So sorry for all the pain you're having with your spine.  I know it well...unfortunatley!!  It ain't fun, is it???

I've had 9 lumbar surgeries and 3 cervical ones..along with about 40 other surgeries..mostly all bone related.  It started when I was just 17 years old...and I had 3 back surgeries before I was 21 or even married and had kids.  It's been a long road...a very long one!!!  Fortunatley I have a wonderfully supportive husband, which helps tremendously!!

If you are not going to a pain management doctor, it might be a good idea to see if your GP can recommend one for you.  They can sometimes help you a lot more than a GP can.  Most doctors don't want to prescribe any pain meds or any other meds when you have chronic problems with your spine...so the PM doc might be the best thing for you.  Not sure if you've tried epidurals either...they might help you.

I also had a nucleoplasty done for herniated disc..I have 3 of them right now, too.  It did help with one of them....the worst one!!  It was one of those "take your breath away" ones!!  I was amazed and it's done through a needle...so no surgery!!  Not saying it will work for you, but it might be worth a shot!!

Hope you can get in to see a pain doc...or if you're going to one now, sounds like you might need to find a different one...since this one you're seeing, doesn't sound like he's doing right by you!!  But, don't give up either!!!  Keep fighting and keep looking!!!

If we can help in any way...please let us know, okay???  There's lots of info on the sidebar, but if it isn't there, let us know...we will try to help you.

Again, welcome to the group...and hope we hear some "good news" from you about your pain!!!  Hang in there!!

Hi, Angie.  Welcome to the family.  And we all are family here, connected by that one thing, chronic pain.  And it sounds like that's got you too.

I've got a couple questions for you.  First, how did you hurt your back?  That is, what were you doing when you herniated those discs?

Second, what state are you in?

Third, who is your doctor you're seeing?  Is it the surgeon who operated on you, or the orthopod?

Regardless of who you're seeing now, you need a different doctor.  You need a doctor who treats pain, because pain is the problem now, not the herniated discs.  OK?

Before you go to see a pain doctor, read this on how to approach him or her, Strategy for Medical Control of Pain

Over on the left is a lot of information on dealing with chronic pain.  You should read the ones on meditation, and pain diary as well as the one I put above.  OK?  I mean, read them all if you want, but those especially.   I think they'll help you the most.

Welcome again.  Let us know if there's anything we can do for you, any questions you need answered, etc.

Lots of love and healing hugs,

Dan
