EMT is a very tough job. I did that for a while while I was in Graduate school. Moving those heavy people on a backboard or even to get them onto a stretcher from the ground could be a very difficult thing, especially given how heavy many people are these days.
Seldom did we get a bad heart attack on someone that was underweight. Usually they were 50 pounds or more overweight and smoked and drank and had just finished a huge dinner. Yuck. (Richard knows what I mean.)
Actually, that's why I got out of medicine. I got tired of the bodily fluids. Blood and guts and gore were OK. But the feces, urine and vomit just finally got to me. LOL Not to mention the halitosis.
You wouldn't think a nose that had been broken so many times could smell so well. But it does. Boy does it. And I got to where those smells just really gave me pause... So I got out of medicine and went into biology.
God bless you for sticking to it that long. Most don't, you know. It's nice that you can get around and still fly though, even with the RA. Often that keeps people from flying because of the changes in pressure. They seem to cause flareups.
Do you take glucosamine and Chondritin? If not, perhaps you should look into it. They're... not herbs, exactly, but they're over the counter and they really help with RA when taken together.
Take care. Thanks for the bio.
