can't i have one set of my own records for free

Hi there Keith!   Yes, a doctor can charge you for your medical records release.  The doctor I currently see charges me for copies of mine.  He actually requires you pay the full fee each and every time you ask for records.  Even if it is just the last office visit or two.  He states it is charged EACH TIME the records are requested.  I live in Texas and I know that our State Medical Licensing Board has established rates that are allowed to be charged.  Here in Texas the MOST they can charge is $25 for the first 20 pages and then 50 cents per page after that.  Your state might also have some similar regulatory rules, you might check with them.
