Hissy you speak the words of an Evangelist. It may surprise you to know that during my 60 years I've travelled that route for a time. I studied, researched, then left. I did the same of the Catholic's. Though I will say I have a soft spot for the practices of Catholic Mass. It's very Paganish.
I'm not a Wiccan, Wiccans are a Religion, Witchcraft is not. Witchcraft does not believe in an actual God/Goddess, and though I use these word to describe a Creator, it's for the benefit of others. For you see my Creator is Science. To me God/Goddess is pure Science, and if you read between the Bible's lines you'll see how true that is. As Witches who did not become Wiccans, we do not believe in Gods, therefore we do not believe in Devils. I could get very Philosophical, and go much deeper than the words I use here, but I won't for this is not the place. I will just say....
We believe that to keep the balance we need both Positive and Negative experiences in our lives. Our Souls need both to gain true Knowledge. This world has both Positive and Negatives at work, and the Balance will one way or another be met.
The Bible though contradictory of this message elsewhere tells Christians and anyone else who will listen, to "Not be like the hypocrit standing at the wailing wall, but rather go into a room on your own, and pray there where you will be heard." Afterall our Creator is anywhere and everywhere all at once. How? Because God/Goddess and any other name one uses on their path is "Pure Science" "Pure Energy." Dispersed throughout the Great Beyond, for ever and ever. Witches understand the force of Nature, of Science, and work with it for whatever means necessary, and as best as their own Knowledge of such will allow. This is a true Witch.
Everything is as it should be.
the captain of my soul...
"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be,
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance,
I have not winced nor cried aloud:
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody but unbowed...
It matters not how strait the gait,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul."
(William Ernest Henley, 1849-1903, from 'Invictus', more precisely titled: Echoes, No4, In Memoriam RT Hamilton Bruce, written in 1888.)
If after reading my above post, you should wonder then why I pray. Well that's easy. I believe in the process of thought activation. I send out good thoughts to those who need it, and the Universal Energy that others call God, will chose to hear or ignore my request for help. Usually my prayers are answered, in time!
