Has anyone else found that Novolog doesn't work as well as Humalog? My numbers went up the first day and I've had to add to the dosage to cover my meals. My doctor switched me, for no apparent reason and I've been dealing with the high numbers. The old if its not broke don't fix it would apply here. Once the Novolog is gone I will go back to my old favorite Humalog. Dee |

Hi Dee, I changed from Humalog to Novolog maybe a year or two ago, and used the exact same dosage with no problem. I did check my BG's more frequently for the first couple of weeks to make sure, but it was a very smooth transition for me. If anything the Novolog was a bit more consistent and predictable for me than Humalog. I hope you can figure out what is causing the additional dosage requirement. But, everyone is different, so maybe it won't work for you -- thank goodness we have choices! By the way -- the change was made at my request. I did not want to continue Humalog, because Lilly makes it in France and I decided to boycott anything French. |

I am a pump user and I just switched from Humalog to Novolog because my doctor thought the humalog was causing a skin irritation around my infusion site. Anyways, I have found the opposite of you. It seems that novolog is controlling my BS better. Over Thanksgiving I had to switch back to humalog for a couple of days and my blood sugars seemed to be higher. |

United Healthcare just changed their formularies and put Humalog into the highest pay bracket. So, I switched to Novolog (savings of $15). The insulin is the same but the material it is suspended in is different. My pharm people had me watch closely to be sure I didn't get any adverse reaction from the new suspension material. I find the Novolog works far better for me. What a shock. However, if I run out of Avandia and payday is a couple of days away, the levels are much harder to control with just the Novolog than it was with the Humalog. Other than that, it works better for me. Melody |

I had the opposite reaction as you. The Novalog works far better for me. But I'm on a pump and according to my doctor the Humalog "leaks" out of pump tubing, so he switched me to Novalog. However, I had wanted to switch any way because I am boycotting Eli Lilly. I didn't know they make their insulin in France, their headquarters is actually in Indiana, but that wasn't why I boycotted them anyway. I am boycotting their greed, they dropped the INGAP trials even though they had been successful. Melissa |

Starting 1 Aug my medical insurance (IHC Select Med) stopped cover Humalog. I was told that we should have gotten a letter about it. I did not see any letter about it. So when I showed up to the pharmacy to get more Humalog, I was told that my medical insurance does not cover Humalog and we need to get a new prescription for Novolog. So it is a big mess. |

While Humalog and Novolog are considered equivalent, they're actually very different in both how they're made and which amino acids are switched. Because of that, some may find that one works better than the other. I've also found that Humalog works better (meaning faster). Others have found the opposite results. Use whichever works better for you. David |

Hi Ayn, I would give it a try. When I changed from Humalog to Novolog, it was at my own request. I found the transition to be no problem -- I took the exact same doses of Novolog as I had taken of Humalog. Your experience may be different, so be sure to test regularly until you are dialed in, to make the same dose works for you. Good Luck, Type1Mike |
